Never been too fussed about colour. Always thought it was a girl thing.

We must reach an age when there are other things that take over our interests from cars.

A mate has recently bought a new Macan. I was with him when he collected it. The dealers were making a song and dance about presenting it, whereas he just wanted to be shown how to pair his phone and get going.

Driving to our meeting afterwards, I looked in the back and asked if a road bike would go in without taking a wheel off. It seemed that and the sunroof were the main reasons for choosing the car. Nice car, but to me (and him) nowadays, that's all they are.

We must reach an age when there are other things that take over our interests from cars.
Indeed, I'm 42 and have had various fast/expensive/sports cars all my driving life (TT's, VW's, BMW's inc a 1M, TVR, S6, RS4 etc), but having had two young kids (who are 5 and 2) it realigned my priorities. I was downsizing physically from a Range Rover Sport and I could have gone out and bought a Golf R, RS3, A45, SQ5, Macan GTS etc but truth be told I felt like I'd got to an age where having the most powerful thing would be wasted and a decent driving experience/price/speed would be better, so I got the GTI. I've also become a bit adverse to spunking money on cars so a GTI for £20k less than a RS3 with 80-90% of the driving pleasure/capability of an RS3 seemed the right thing to do.

Horses for courses, I know we all approach things differently.

Perceived build quality, plus bloody strong residuals from Porsche. I don't dislike the Cashcow, but the lack of a decent Auto box and crap towing ability meant I stuck to what I knew and bought a Tig.

There are also some not so nice shades of grey, like Urano Grey - the free dark primer colour on some VW models.
