Title: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: The Doc on 20 May 2006, 20:09
Next remove the heater controls and place them on their side for easy access - donÂ’t unplug it though!

ok now pull the gear lever surround upwards
(http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/5460/dsc030620jx.jpg)

then undo the 2 screws holding the ashtray in place
(http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9932/dsc030630fy.jpg)

Then place your remote button from the control unit  where you would like it and feed the wires beneath the ashtray and retrieve them at the rear of the air con control unit.

then replace the ashtray, screw the screws back in & replace the gear stick surround
(http://img396.imageshack.us/img396/9734/dsc030676nb.jpg)

MAKING CONNECTIONS

Ok next we take the RADIO (FEMALE) end of the adapter lead and insert the plugs that we removed from the radio loom
(http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3703/dsc030684tu.jpg)

then insert the RADIO end of the adapter into the radio
(http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/516/dsc030692gu.jpg)

next plug the cars radio loom into the adapters other (male) plug
(http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3230/dsc030703yx.jpg)

then push the wiring loom into the dash, out of the way but leave the CAR KIT wiring hanging out.

next feed all remaining car phone wiring through to the rear of the radio bracket and out of the air con bracket
(http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8889/dsc030728fb.jpg)

FEEDING THE MIC WIRE THROUGH

The next phase is to feed the mic wire from the cubby to the air - con bracket area - tape the 2 highlighted wires together
(http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/9578/dsc030737zr.jpg)

and feed the wires behind the dash up to the rear of the heater controls
(http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/903/dsc030752nu.jpg)

MAKING FINAL CONNECTIONS

ok now simply plug all your connectors into the CAR KIT CONTROL UNIT
(http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3097/dsc030770kg.jpg)

then fix the unit at the rear of the heater controls using Velcro etc - then push the radio back into place
(http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3047/dsc030789go.jpg)

There should be 1 wire left waving around - the blue one you cut off the loom at the beginning - this provides the car kit with the switched ignition supply that it needs - strip around 1cm of the insulation off.

then join it to pin 20 of the heater controls - a black wire with a blue tracer - if this is not present then find an ignition live using a multi meter.

the unit is now functional - pair up your bluetooth phone and test it!

when using your phone the radio will now show phone or telephone, mute your radio and the speech from your call will be played through your front speakers!

REASEBLE THE CAR!

Doc,

I think you need to stress how important it is to keep the microphone wire away from the a-pillar airbags. If someone were to take a shortcut when routing the wire and get parts behind the pillar trim it's gonna be a tad dangerous in a crash :nerd:

Good work!

OK

Air bag bit ammended for the brain dead out there - thanks

Please don't have nightmares fella - all the bits cost buttons to replace if ya feck 'em plus I never had any part of a Golf snap on me! Unlike some other cars I could mention!

Glad I've helped - Let me know if anyone tries fitting one!

you can still use the stereo interface leads... I've got some with sony erricson adapters... looks like the doc might have too!
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: The Doc on 26 May 2006, 23:04
Yup the interface lead is the best way to get them or you can cut into you wires on the rear of the radio - Do you have climate control or manual air-con?

I don't sell these items so ask Dom if he can supply you with one!

Sorry So whats that for ??

I have a 06 GTi and a Sony ericsson HCB-30 bluetooth kit along with the advanced music mute HCE016

Tal
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: Dom Mk3 on 30 May 2006, 16:39
The interface leads basically provide a nice easy way of powering the phone kit and having the sound come through the standard car speakers. The sony music mute lead does half of this, interrupting the stereo outputs of the radio and pumping it's own sound through when needed. I don't think it fits an 06 gti though, more standard ISO units....

Brilliant... what superb instructions! fitted and it's great. I got a bit worried when there seemed to be bits of car everywhere, but I soon got it all back together, and rattle free for the moment. Thanks again Doc.
Be even happier when the paintwork's done though!?
What other projects have you got lined up for sharing Doc? I know you mentioned the parking sensors...

A BIG up to the Doc.

I got stuck during the instal as I didnt realise the audio leads fuses had to be placed onto the wiring, so that  the system has power! doh but the doc was at hand to help..
just to recap...my audio leads kit came with the fuses not connect, i should have realised when i had four unconnected blockes but i didnt.

thanks again Doc

Hey Doc,
Quote
What projects would you like me to cover?
Not sure... but is the multi-function steering wheel do-able?
Also, someone told me that the Nokia car kit mentioned here has more functions... like access to phonebook etc with newer Nokia mobiles. have you heard this? I'm due for a new mobile so I thought I'd ask just in case....
Thanks again
Dave

Hi Doc,

I want to install a parrot Ck3100 Advanced BT kit
I think I"ll need this cable : VW02PAR , ISO adapter for VW cars

Found both on www.justcarkitsonline.co.uk (http://www.justcarkitsonline.co.uk)

Any suggestions on how to install the kit ?
Or is it the same as the nokia kit ?

TIA

Oliver

Tis just the same as the nokia to fit really - only this kit uses iso connectors

The iso to VW kit is cheaper here from Dom Mk3 @ £20 though!

Any problems please ask for help.

Good luck

The iso to VW kit costs about 22£ here in Belgium, VW-stealer just round corner.
Will I need to cut that blue wire and connect it to heater control, or is that in the iso adapter.
What about my soundpack and cd changer connectors, no probs there ?

TIA

Oliver

EDIT: Cable + Parrot CK3100 kit : 180€ or 120£ at VW-Stealer, I'll have a go later this week
EDIT bis : And no need to cut the blue cable, all is ready to plug with the ISO adapter

Will the iso adapter support cd-changer and soundpack ?

TIA

hi,

I'm very impressed with the pics and the install.  I'm a new owner of a Mk5 GTI and would love to fit a bluetooth nokia car kit.  However I think its one step above my skill level, since fitting the new electric window winders on my mk4 drove me nuts.

so my question is, can anyone recommend an installer in west london, that is reasonably priced?

many thanks

Paul

I used Sextons in battersea on my Smart Roadster, they'll get my GTi once it turns up for an Alpine nav unit, plus bluetooth car kit....

Certainly happy with their service.

I took davidfsmith's advice and went to Sexton's in Wandsworth and had a Parott Ck3100 kit fitted.  I was very pleased with the service and the fact the dash is completely unmarked from the install.
The Parott kit sounds good and people tell me that the quality is good their end.  I took the advice from one of the threads on here that said not to have the mic by the A post airbag, so I had fixed in the centre by the map lights, which is also handy if the passenger wants to talk.
I'm not 100% sold on the position, but theres nowhere else to put it, apart from sightly higher, just have to see how my passengers find it and if they think its in the way getting in and out.

Where OlliBlue has his - just below the hazard button ( see page 3 of this item for a pic ) or on the top of the air vent above your light switch.

the guy at the fitting place said "theres nowhere for the wire to go" and there obviously is, but, ollieblue says it bends the plastic!  maybe the wire can be replaced with a flat version?
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: The Doc on 14 October 2006, 10:50
The guy is wrong - you can place the screen close to the "A" pillar on the driver side and feed the wire down the side of the dash as per the mic on the car phone kit - he is being lazy dude - the place he has fitted it is by far the easiest - make him move it - if YOUR not happy!
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: 2007GTI on 14 October 2006, 13:45
ok thanks Doc.

I like the idea of having it in the middle, above the radio, but not if it bends the plastic in the process, as per ollieblue.
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: The Doc on 14 October 2006, 20:17
I'm sure it could be done without the bending!
Title: Re: HOW TO: MK5 GOLF Nokia Car Kit PART 2
Post by: OlliBlue on 17 October 2006, 10:08
Any suggestions Doc?
It's the sat nav plastic that is bended.

@2007GTI : Could you post a pic from your mic install ? I might change mine so that the pass. can also speak.

PS NON CLIMATE CARS take the switched pos from the air con controls, on the rear of the air con controls there are 4/5 thick wires - use the one closest to the pass side

Hi great forum guys
Good fitting guide and had to join the forum to say a big thanks, mine is fitted just like you say but I took the Nokia plastic mic apart and fitted the guts in the roof light where VW fits their mic and it works sweet.
One thing I will point out though is I got my kit from sextons and it was only 12 quid but I had nothing working when it was all fitted so I rang Autoleads Tech and it turns out VW have moved the mute lead (Yellow) from the power block up on to the top quadlock pin 10 I believe where the two microphone wires are if anyone needs a piccy I will get one posted anyway to cut a long story short it seems there are two types of 06-116b kits in circulation the old one (Maybe hence 12 quid) and the new one which has the wire moved to the correct place, and to top it off there are no phyical extra pins in the top quadlock so you have to salvage one from somewhere and make your own connection or send it back to the supplier and demand the newer cable instead.

Regards
Charles

After removing my RNS-MFD2 stereo and the air con unit today to fit an I-Pod adaptor,I now have an airbag warning light coming up on the dash. Does anyone know where the connections are for the airbags, so that I can check if I have knocked them by accident? Or is it more likely that I have damaged something?

I also dropped a small torx spanner down the air con vent on the top when removing it, although all my air-con seems to be working fine, not a successful day!!!!

Cheers

My goodness, is this still here

Ok, firstly don't panic!

I can't imagine why the airbag light would come on if you've only removed the radio and air con unit but hey ho, where are you located and lets see if you have anyone local that can fix your problem

Still here and very very useful!!

Just been told if I disconnectd the hazard light and passenger airbag plugs (which I did) without the battery being disconnected this will cause the airbag light to come on. Im assuming from this I will just need to go to my local VW garage for them to clear the fault code?

I live in Aberdeen but am back home visiting family in Norfolk until tomorrow.

Cheers for the help, this site really is brilliant!!!
