New MK6 GTI Owner in need of assistance 😣
« on: 27 November 2016, 01:01 »
Hi,

New to the forumn, apologies if I have posted in the wrong section.

Long story short, bought my MK6 GTI a few months ago and today she broke down on me in Doncaster coming from Manchester.

EML/EPC light on
Car shaking
Chokes when I accelerate
Strong petrol smell
Black smoke from exhaust

Any idea as to what the problem is?

Thanks in advance

Manny

Cam chain tensioner failure?  What year is it? Has the tensioner issue been dealt with?

59 Plate. To be honest I have no clue. What  makes you think it could be a cam chain issue? I'm trying to get someone with VAGCOM access to look at it, being sunday no ones open.

Anyone in the Manchester area willing to help this poor lad out?

The earlier cars had an issue with the cam chain tensioner, my car had anew engine at around 45000 miles under warranty. If that's the issue you need to pester vw as its a known fault and keep pestering them for the issue to be sorted, most likely with a new engine, tell them its down to their incompetence for designing and selling sub standard cars which are incapable of basic function. Stuff like that, i know the warranty is long gone but its not failed because of misuse, age or wear. It has failed due to being defective.

If that is the issue remember.

Thanks for the response. I will keep that in mind. I have a mate coming down later with a standard diagnostics machine, hopefully it will tell me where to start looking.

Got a lad out from Warrington to do a full scan. Cylinders 1,3 and 4 are misfiring. I'm guessing it's a coil pack issue. Luckily I still have warranty on my car from the garage I bought it from. Rang them up and they said they would fix the issue. Happy days!
