Chocolate Cam Advice
« on: 15 July 2014, 21:41 »
Evening All,

I have just become a victim of the dreaded Chocolate Cam on my 2003 GT TDI ARL PD 150. Just gone over 122k and recently had the turbo cleaned! On the way home and put the foot the go faster pedal, to hear he knocking get louder and louder. I got home just about.

I really don't know what to do as all the garages around me locally, Hertfordshire, are quoting about £1500-£2000 to fix. That's 4 different garages!

Tax, MOT is due at the end of the month.

The car has plenty of modifications although I do not have the time to break the car myself. And really I don't want to see her broken (no matter how sad that sounds!)

Good news is work has offered me a company car, although need some money so need to decide what to do with my car. Just need some advice please guys.

Reckon I can sell it to a car broker as is and what will I get?
Or should I fix it and then just sell?

I reckon the car will be worth about £2,500 fixed, does that sound about right?

Thank you all!

Thats bonkers. When I had mine done at Jabbasport that was only half the amount you've been quoted.

Those quotes are ludicrous,  id definitely be sourcing the parts myself and speaking to other garages about fitment.

Surely you could get another engine fitted cheaper?

Stripping and selling the parts will get you the most money back.
