Drammatic rise in MPG
« on: 05 May 2014, 12:09 »
After installing the DSD IC kit and pipe work I have noticed a very tidy increase in my MPG on motorway runs. The other day I almost touched 60 (59.6) on a 150ish mile trip. Astounded. I have never hit that before, usually at like 54/55.

So...could the IC be the reason why? Cooler inlet temps etc? How would this affect MPG?  :nerd:

Lack of boost leaks will be helping; turbo not working as hard etc

Dont forget the rise in ambient temperature too

Don't say the RISE in temperature has helped? I thought cold air was better for MPG!?  :undecided:

You ever noticed how it drops during the winter??

Dont forget that diesels are horribly inefficient when they are cold

Cold air is better for POWER; why did you fit a larger intercooler?? To keep temps down and to reduce heatsoak   :nerd:

You got the 150?? Standard intercooler is surprisingly efficient  :lipsrsealed:

Yeaaa. Forgot about that tbh. I got power mixed up with MPG. Oh well...I'm getting really good results at the mo!

I replaed it with the S3 IC as my old one kaput. I had to self tap the pipes into the plastic end of the IC. I replaced the whole lot, no more issues...EVER. Hopefully

Diesels like warm air for efficiency.

I've started seeing the computer read 60mpg on my 37 mile drive home a few times in the last 2 weeks. Driving to work is always less at around 52-53mpg. All on the computer mind.

The drive to work is always less probably because I'm overtaking and often late :D

I regularly see 600 miles from a tank. 150PD with R-Tech stage 1 remap to 185bhp and 320ft/lb of torques.
