150bhp TDI golf running on 3 cylinders? Help ?
« on: 02 April 2014, 21:02 »
Hi everyone, got a little/big problem, I have got a 2000 reg mk4 golf 150bhp tdi, and it is running on 3 cylinders? Had a mechanic look it over, he assures me it's not the injector or the wiring? And has gave me the car back? Does anybody on here have any ideas they can give me, or clues as to what it may be? My mechanic doesn't want to do the work for me, as he reckons it will cost to much and has told me do it myself. The car has done 138k miles and it runs ok on the 3 cylinders, just rough idle and rubbish power, the car means a lot to me had it for 7 years, and I really don't want get rid :(

Thanks

Good thinking.

Easily done, a real quick check. If you need a hand doing this come back and I'll put some pics up.

You will see a strangely shaped camshaft and followers

The damage will be fairly obvious

Is this likely to be the problem? And how much will it cost me roughly get it fixed? Thanks
