The polo looks like it's cowering in the corner, trying to hide from the big nasty vauxhalls
Which one are you going to use to fill The Doc's place with smoke in October?

For a facelift 06 plate it is a lot of car for the money.
Just out of interest how many miles has it got on it.
-
I'm glad you got a face lifted model. Looks much better than the previous style. For all the stick they get Vecta's aren't the worst way from A to B -as has been said a lot of car for the money.
Remap time

And you can all stop laughing now
No point rushing into this 'stopping' malarky.
I understand the Polo's still OK? :lipsrsealed:
-
Its not got a failing flywheel or there abouts has it?
A work mate had (key word here) a facelift vectra on a 07 plate and went through 4 flywheels in about 6month. Warranty didnt cover him for the last one.. £1000+ bill over xmas isnt good.
Needless to say he got rid and now drives a mondeo that works.

DMF are a nightmare on any car! couldn't you have done the conversion?
Thom
-
DMF are a nightmare on any car! couldn't you have done the conversion?
When I spoke to him he said there wasn't one. :undecided:
-
That's a nightmare. Hope you get it sorted and it starts to fulfil its primary function as a car and not a money pit.
I hear only horror stories about the DMF wheels/ clutches and g/boxes in those and how much of a pita they are to get out from the taxi guys.
-
-
egr valves are common on these aswell to go think there was a recall on them as a mates astra was done free
-
That's sh!t  How has the dealer washed his hands of these issues? :undecided:
-
Is Rhys going to be compensating you?

Quite now Steve..Friday is 4 days away!
I refer the honourable gentlemen to my answer about its general crapness.
-
bad news matey as said!
-
Elvi, its always Friday at my house :lipsrsealed:
-
Chuff has been unfortunate, but lets not lose sight of the that almost exactly the same DMF system is used on pretty much everything these days! and that includes as far as I'm aware, all of the VAG group of cars, and for quite a few years at that! Parts prices for ALL DMF equipped cars are horrendous.. where Chuff will come out on top here, is that he is surrounded by Vauxhall people, with exactly the correct kit, and knowledge to do the job, which is one of the reasons, he felt it wise to jump ship
The rest he can write off to experience, but please, Chuff has not made any mistake buying a Vauxhall over anything else
Thom
-
Except there's an alternative to the DMF for VWs, but apparently not for Vauxhall.... unless something's crept out of the woodwork by now.
-
I wouldn't replace a dmf on a diesel with a smf have you heard how they sound after? And the fact they cost as much as the dmf anyway
-
have you heard how they sound after? And the fact they cost as much as the dmf anyway
What, like a taxi?
At least the fecker shouldn't break again.
-

I'm sure the lads at work have replaced DMF's on Vauxhalls, with traditional Flywheel setups... I'll ask tomorrow, as its not really my Department

You buying is bud?
Nick
No mate, did ask about it for my dads missus but Chuff advised against it for what she requires.. It had some serious interest from a fella at the show so wondered if the guy went for it.
-
theres a guys round birm ends (warwick road) and his a clutch specialist and had the same prob with a DMF for a vaux he was replacing it every 3months! and he stated that it was a feck up from the dealers or the manufacturar! hope you get it sorted!
-
Sad times Chuff bud, hope it gets resolved and carries on being a good bruiser for ya.
Nick

A man with some sense. Although I will agree with DH if there's truth in his comment after the one quoted. I wouldn't buy a Vectra due to issues they have, unless I worked at a dealer cause then you know you're in safe hands.........
Passat TDI, 3 years old, 28 thousand miles.
Hello bill of over a grand as the DMF goes AND at the time, there was no SMF replacement for that engine.
-
You wouldn't want a SMF on a TDI Bellend. It'd vibrate like poop.
At the end of the day, Chuff'll come out on top, as Thom said he's surrounded by people who can do the work, however if it had been a Golf/Passat etc....it'd be even more £££ for Chuff.
-

Fair enough, to be honest, I have no idea, DMF are new to me.
-
well the old girl lives . and goes soooooooooooooooooooooo much better than before.
New glow plug and starter motor refurb so all is well
Thom, thanks
DH  see you satdee

Welcome to world of diesel ownership
-
Glad its sorted  and hopefully thats the end of the problems.... :lipsrsealed:
-
its a vauxhall steve  booked an hours slot next week already
-
Chuff just read this thread sorry to hear but in less than a month for you to experience these type of problems and you state it came from a trader how come he is not sorting it out?
Car must be fit for purpose and reliable for a reasonable length of time based on the purchase price.
If the dealer and I quote you is washig his hands of it. Then you really should consider taking action against him.
It annoys the hel out of me when people allow dealers to do this as gives good dealers a bad name as we are all tarred with the same brush.
If you want any help or advice on what to do next drop me a pm as over the years dealt directly with trading standards over a few issues so know how to approach the dealer to get best outcome.
I assume you have it in writting he refused to pay for a replacement dual mass fly wheel? This would not be considered to be fair wear and tear based on your purchase price
-
cheers robi, I am taking advice already but if not then I will be in touch
-
Only just seen this as ive been on holiday Sorry to hear bud
At least you had the right people to sort it
Glad its all ok now

Mostly driving around in my civic like a wayne kerr  But nah im all good, thanks for asking! I would ask how you are but it seems your life is throwing up interesting events on a daily basis
-
suprised the DMF didn't just get welded up and a quick skim after to put it back into true
welded loads of flywheels where there has been no SMF conversion kit and never had a problem with it. but if you think vhauxhall flywheels are bad try hyundia they can and will fail sub 10k miles but there again they are held together with washer thats just more or less crimped onto a tube through the center of the flywheel i've had loads of them on the bench eveyone has had the exact same fail most will repair in 5 mins, but they are that bad if have a new flywheel come in the washer gets welded before fitting
-
no danny, proper job done
Winter wheels purchased today, just need the tyres to go on them

it DOES pay to buy the make your garage is after all, Thom, you were right with your advice :afro:

then we hit the BIGGEST problem of the day, the bumper trim, what a TeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaT of a job to get that off,
so in the end i got it off the easy way
(http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp359/chuffs69/448db945.jpg)
then the new ( but old ) system went on, a breeze, but it was a genuine system which helped

and despite one LARGE issue, and a few minors it has served me VERY well.
infact it has served me BEYOND my own estimations :lipsrsealed:
I nearly replaced it this week  with an identical one, but 2 years younger and a third of the miles, but alas it was too pricey even with the boss giving me a deal on mine. that said, mine " in trade " is only 500 less than what I paid for this 12 months ago
So, 100k will be seen tomorrow on my way to Telford, a towbar will be going on next month and some new tyres before it goes to the Ring in October

I can't wait to put the Golf in for an MOT. I'm expecting the failure and advisory list to be printed on a whole roll of toilet paper.
-
I can't wait to put the Golf in for an MOT.
Got a date for that?
-
Not really no. It goes in for paint in the first week of November. After that it depends how long it takes me to put it all back together after discovering I've lost bits  (Which reminds me I need to pick up the windscreen and get some fuel lines)
Before Christmas is the plan so I can get in any parts required and use the time off work to get it through a retest (Depending on how badly it fails). Sprint, Solo and Hillclimb season kicks off mid March so that is the ultimate deadline for it being back on the road and ready to compete. It would also mark 12 months since I took it to bits.

Quick tech2 and new parts ordered under warranty - which is nice

Seems old whistler the turbo is a tad worse for wear :lipsrsealed:
Infact it's very
Spooling up with car say on idle is not good
Still - estimate for replacement was as bad as expected
Just gotta tell the wife chrimbo is cancelled
-
I love the fact that despite the amount of failures you have had with this car you still defend it as being a wise purchase because you can get it fixed quickly at work.... If it was any other situation....
-

You didn't see how it was drove on the twisty German roads....!!!

More than that I HEARD how it was being driven on German roads.

Finally dug the Winters out of the shed and got them fitted on friday
Very good feel, even in the snow. good traction even in deep snow
bad vibration at 70 ish  :lipsrsealed:
cold but wet roads tonight meant I could push on a bit and the grip and feedback is impressive, and after a few spirited roundabout exits the vibration has dissapeared, bit like the 3 series BMW that was a tad twitchy coming off the last roundabout

How many miles are on it now then ?
-
So come on then, what you had done to it?
it blew number three injector seal - or it would seem its been gone for quite a while  :lipsrsealed:
problem is you need to remove number 2 to remove number 3
good old vauxhalls
yep, you have guessed it, to remove number 2, you gotta remove number 1
Thankfully as it was on my bill, the lads improvised, whipped number 2 out by pulling the stud out ( risky put it worked :lipsrsealed: ) as we only had 2 seals in stock
as for the mileage - showing 108k
-
Ha, so you gonna be putting it on the rolllers then?

and after a day too hot to polish, made the most of a nice evening, even if I did get some strange looks from people passing by, but need to start showing the old girl some TLC, looks like it could be on daily duties for a long while yet

to the point people are now flashing me :lipsrsealed:
the problem was located this afternoon, the swirl valve bar has popped off and the fixings are fcuked
can you buy a new one from Vauxhall, can you fcuk, unless it comes with a COMPLETE INLET MANIFOLD at MEGA £££££'s
this is the item in question
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b142/chuff69/swirlvalve.jpg)
So a quick google, search of the vectra forum and a trip to german ebay has located a suitable replacement
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b142/chuff69/swirl2.jpg)
hopefully be here this week sometime, til then is smoke screen central and 35 MPG
then its the joy of trying to get all 4 lugs located in a very tight space
-
Pah! Everyone knows smoking's cool.
-
WTF is that and WTF does it do?!
-
WTF is that and WTF does it do?!
4 swirl valves on the 16v 150brake smoker
no3 is powered by an actuator
the bar is connected to all 4 and moves them accordingly, noramlly the actuator sticks but mine is fine.
the sockets on the bar are worn, and it falls off, hence the GERMANS making a much improved version, its the same issue on Saabs, Fiats, Pauxhalls, to name a few.
all explained by the joy of google translate from http://www.swirlrepair.com/

-
me too, just about to flip a coin - gotta love decision making
Well I want to make a decision but that involves being given information. You think after nearly a week they would be able to give me feedback
-
I thought this thing was immortal, surely you haven't killed it mate.
-
How dead is it?
-
Not dead enough
-
 less dead than last night Rhys
After a niggling doubt, and before I splashed out on a replacement gearbox , the original symptoms of a knackered diff/gearbox were rechecked, and despite being in line with that, the noise and rumble just didnt sound right. :nerd:
So after another spirited drive up on the ramps, it turns out it "Could" be the drive shaft to idler shaft bearing and mount which bolts up to the engine n box hence the same symptoms.
So, until that is all swapped out, we cant tell if the box itself is fooked too. :lipsrsealed:
So for the third time, " never seen that fail " were muttered by the Techs, and we have never stocked the bits ever either !
Old smoking whistler might live on yet
-
put it out of it's misery please. it's lived longer than it should have!
-
sod that, 4 new tyres, new brakes and a few other bitz - needs to see me another 12 months, hopefully
-
It lives on, for now
-
so i nearly killed it, the mpg dropped from mid 40s to 36.5 and 37.6 for 2 tank fulls.
now its back up to 45mpg again
Long may it continue
-
dose of nasty fuel perhaps?
-
dose of nasty fuel perhaps?
did consider that, will see what this weeks consumption is when I fill up later. :lipsrsealed:
its not had an easy week
-
127k and rising, then it sank into the verge on the daily single lane journey home :lipsrsealed:
-
broke it, :lipsrsealed:
-
broke itself again due to being a usual vectra , :lipsrsealed:

sshhhhhhhhhhhhh now barry, it gets a hard time - and 127k on its original waterpump aint bad
Shame this should be ONE PIECE
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b142/chuff69/B3A4F948-617D-427E-8E59-3D21F55CD382.jpg)
cost more than the camblet kit and w/pump  but explains the vibration and chattering noise
-
well looks like i might have finally started nailing the coffin sh!t on this.
EML light on, fuel pressure rail fault. :lipsrsealed:
if its the high pressure pump breaking down, thats game over due to it wrecking the injectors, and the faf involved cleaning the whole system out
hey ho, it lasted well knowing the abuse its been given and lasted longer than a lot of its newer sibling Insignias we have had thru work
Fingers crossed a job interview goes well next week and it could be scrapped and replaced by me walking to work
-
hope you get the new job to save you fixing that nasty thing again  1 less vauxhall on the roads
-
even if i dont get the job it wont be fixed barry, new pump, fitting and 4 new injectors = SCRAPPED
-
even if i dont get the job it wont be fixed barry, new pump, fitting and 4 new injectors = SCRAPPED
well i still hope you get the job  just means you could possibly have a weekend car now  mk2 turbo
-
Pictures of you walking to work or it never happened.
-
