Thinking of getting either a TDi 130 or 150 next year and am looking to make it go a bit quicker by getting it chipped. Are there any downsides to this (apart from the initial cost obviously) and are there any companies to avoid or to be recommended???

Ta v much

On diesels the clutch may slip after the map becasue of the amounts of torque!

yep but thats if you got a 130 / 150 due to the 240mm diameter clutch

the rest will be cheaper as they are only 224mm

would have liked to it to have lasted longer but always planned to get it done - and as a couple of people will confirm - its quick

Can't recommend it enough - if you are thinking about doing it then just go for it.  I paid £200 to remap the TDI Polo from 100bhp to ~130bhp, knocked an easy 2 seconds off my 30-70mph time, and I can still squeeze 70mpg with gentle driving and 205 width tyres.  There are no downsides so long as you tell the insurers and don't floor it in 1st - the torque will tend to rip the car to bits if you're a heavy starter......
