From looking at the engines everything points towards the E -350 CDI blue efficiency V6 diesel
-
the older shape e-class in much nicer inside and out imo. if you are looking from new... then look no further than the new 5 series! beats the merc hands down
-

Very nice, I havent driven one but the engine is top , not as nimble as the GTI though???
-
The only car I would swap my GTI for is the Aston Martin Vantage. For the price of the E Class coupé, you could get a nice preowned example
-
Oh I dnt know GTI, A5, E-class or new 3 series coupe ??????
-
I also, drive a Mercedes C Class 350 CDI Sport 7 Speed Auto. It's good but a bit boring and I hate the foot operated hand brake.
BMW 3 Series 3.0D or 3.5D much better to drive but pig ugly externally and nasty on the inside.
If you are going the saloon route, then the new BMW 5 Series is the one. Fabulous interior and the highest NCAP rating. Looks good too, but too long for me as is also the C Class. So I prefer Golf GTi which I feel is a good compromise for moi!
New E-Class saloon is a mess in styling. The old one looks much better. However, too many of these around as mini-cabs.
Coupe - E Class is really very tasty. BMW Coupe too tame and boring in the looks department
Audis - A3, A4, A5, A6 all quite horrid to drive. Niceish interiors and they can be specced with 4WD.
Stick with the Golf GTi, or buy a 5 Series.
-
Get The R :smug:
-
Get The R :smug:
That was going to be the next thing I was going to suggest!
You spoilt sport.
-
Got to test drive R before you purchase anything else first?? :undecided:
-
Why not get yourself a nice aftermarket leather and treat yourself with all kind of aftermarket goodies....I do not see a comparison between your present GTI and your car on the wishlist...so either ditch the GTI or brush it up (remap and luxe) so it becomes a bit less boring (for you)....
-

I simply love such answers......
They are so beside the reality....but the alarming part is that I agree....

Cant believe your bored of the GTI.
My next car will be a TTRS, but that wont be because I'm bored of the GTI though.

Sorry Kev, but I think the Audi TTs are ugly and look like bugs!
Excepting the Audi A5 Coupe (grille excluded), I don't like the proportions of any Audi. Even worse are their gaping vulgar grilles.
-
the TTRS can be as ugly as it likes with that engine!
-
Agreed.........besides the R8 and A5...
No way my GTI for a TT......with more money I will go for an "R" and with more more money for Porsche (one that has to humiliate an "R" Golf ... full stop)
-

Yes it certainly can and certainly is.

The fact I can get to 174mph and 0-60 in 4.5 secs will make up for any visual misgivings. The RS though does have some differences over the standard TT.

Now your talking :)
-
Well I've already remapped my GTI and that hasn't got my juices flowing I dnt want a 5 series they are too big not really bothered about the golf R what a dilemma if I told u all my age that might help with the sugesstions.....

Living with visual misgivings does not make sence, buy a nice "R" and remap...and you have the best of both worlds...no need to punish yourself.... :smug:

Nearly a teenager. Sweet.

Absolutely. The TTRS is a Golf R on steroids.
-
My GTI is not going anywhere yet, I love it like the first day I owned it.
TTRS is a couple of years down the line yet. By then the GTI will be paid off and I may just keep the GTI and have both.

When my GTI goes im either going to pick up an RS3, One of these new subaru's with the new 400bhp Cosworth engine Or an M3
Im still 23 performence and a little bit of quality is the only pressing issue. F**k some big barge cruiser at my age.
-
the TTRS can be as ugly as it likes with that engine!
Remap'd GTI is quicker then a standard TTRS. My freind has one in Doncaster and i always come past him everytime he boots it.
-
I know what u mean regarding a barge cruiser lol I do like m3,s but I think BMW is not good value for money ie the interior is rancid

Absolutely. The TTRS is a Golf R on steroids.
Just shows you have not driven one. A mate has a white TTRS not the best colour imo but its far more than a Golf R (the Rs no were near it for driving/power/handling/sound/feel/speed) or a TT. Fantastic to drive and goes like a rocket in all weathers. I would much rather have one than a coxster. I still wind him up about the TT image though

get yourself a TTRS killer

You been brainwash by a tall fat man in his fifties call JC.
For £50000 A 'coxster s' is a better car than a TTRS if you value driver involvement such as steering feel and perfect body control. The sort of handling that only a midengine fastcar can provides! You have to spend another £30000 to buy a similar driving experience---a second hand low mileage R8 V8, F430 or Gallardo
-
All a coxster S says is you could not afford a 911

All a coxster S says is you could not afford a 911
Doesn't matter what other people say about you! You buy what you want and what you can afford!
I drove a £82000 Carrera S but 911 nutcase will still say I bought my Herbie cause I cannot afford a £120000+ Turbo S or the GT3RS.
Same problem with the TT RS! For the average person in UK, they will not be able to tell what is the difference between a TT RS or a debadge TT TDI!
-
You seem to want rear seating capacity.
If you don't, Porsche all the way.
-
Not realy bothered about rear seating the gti has that I don't know I can't mek my mind up but if I decide to go I'm having an m3 only thing is I hate paying more money for an older car than I have now !! Been looking at 2007 M3's they weigh in at 35k on average
-
New 3 Series next year.
-

really hmmm so that means new M3 soon after leaving me with the old model. I dnt think so. Long live the GTI

Now what? In or out for a new set of wheels or second hand ones?
After all this, you're not going to do a thing? Please don't out do James Gould. PLEASE.
-
Cards on the table.
How much can you afford to spend?
-
No more than around 35-37k
-
Ok.
Used Audi RS4, used BMW M3, used Mercedes C63 AMG, new VW Golf R (re-mapped).
Your choice of used M3 then is on the money. IMO.
-

Good choice!
-

You can easily net a high spec low mileage S5 or S4 for that money.
C63 and M3 is quicker but I am not keen spending that sort of money on an older high mileage car!!

u guys think i will regret it ??
my dad had a clk amg. very nice but it tends to depreciate very quickly compared to an equivalent audi a5 or a bmw 3 series coupe. its due to the fact the merc sl is better and the e-class coupe not being very desirable. why not a porsche boxster spyder or a boxster s gen 2. i have the boxster gen 2- truly amazing to drive compared to my gti mark6. i love it! what car magazine gives it 5 stars. the feel of the steering wheel is phenomenal and dont forget the sound. only gripe is the the expensive extras. it makes vw extras look cheap. having had an audi tt mark2, and a a4 cabriolet. i have to say porsche is the tops. the feel when u drive it. it gives u pleasure and you can feel the grip.
must choose a gen 2 with updated spec..

If you can stretch the budget A LITTLE i would go for one of these

Looks nice and will make your other half a proud woman
The down side is it will drain your wallet and it does not go round the twisties as nimble as your GTI! There is quite a lot of town centre which you cannot leave this car for more than 30min!
-
Why would any twenty year old even consider a MB E class? You have a lifetime in front of you to buy boring cars like that.
The same for M3's, RS4's and other bloated rep mobiles.
Something small and nippy with perfect steering would be just the job. Save the luxo barges for the time when you have baggage like a mother in law to ferry around.
-
^god has spoken , he has a point
-
2 year old new shape 3 door M3, white with black wheels. Mmmmmm, nice!

For once, I agree with you.

That'd be a Golf R then?

Focus rs, seat leon cupra r or k1. The jap version of the civic typre r.
A few i would consider.

Not sure about the OP but a lot of these pups are still living at home and aren't paying huge mortgages. When I was that age I bought a brand new Lotus Elan S2 for £27K, that was a lot of money 15 years ago but was still living with parents and fuel was about 30p a litre!

I guess your right there, I forget sometimes that i could probably afford to buy one of these on finance but i'am choosing to save for house deposit instead

He's going to be 21 soon and whether he is giving himself or being given a very nice present is neither here nor there. It's great he is enjoying his youth.
-
Their are some sexy examples of cars with everything already done to it for nice money on pistonheads ... Just get what ever you want, don't ask for opinions. You'll get too many different ones, putting you back to square one. But one rule of thumb, with that kinda cash, i'd try and get something very nice thats had thousands and thousands spent on it by the original owner already!
-
He's probably bought the M3 today!
