Play in front disc pads
« on: 13 August 2017, 19:28 »
Hi
My brakes clunk when going into reverse or when going forward.
Now they make a clunking noise when going over potholes.
Please look at video https://youtu.be/B4DO__U3BQg is this normal?
Regards
Mark

It's 2017

Hope you stay around when you get some help with your question! From what I can tell from the portrait video is that it has aftermarket or wrong sized pads fitted.

Marky,
I've had this problem in my R for the last few months, but not to the extent that you seem to have it. The dealers had my car in to fix other things (which involved removing the wheel, greasing the pads, etc) and ever since that I get a slight clunk when reversing into my drive. I believe it is the front passenger side brake pad moving slightly in the calliper as the car changes direction. I'm told its quite common - and even normal to some degree.
But I will be asking them to look at it in the service which is due soon. Maybe my pads need replacing or some other adjustment is needed.

Back in the day I owned an Astra GTE and I recall clearly the brake pads used to 'clunk' while reversing. Initially I thought I had hit something. That was caused by aftermarket pads as has been mentioned already, (not fitted myself I would add).
