Reading forums makes you not want to go near any dealer, ever, for anything
(Except maybe for a free coffee)

I use a guy in hitchin, he's not a stealer, he works for vw during the day then services my car after work, he started before the days of techs so he's a proper mechanic, been using him for 10 or so years and he's always been spot on with my golfs, even diagnosing one over the phone (ok he's on holiday ATM when I want him to check over my mk7.1 lol), maybe there's someone like that down your way?

I used VW West London (when they were known as VW Chiswick) years ago on my Mk5 and it was a sh!te experience, so I went to VW Twickenham, only to find out that they are owned by the same people, Inchcape.  Then years later when I had a MK6 1.4, I used VW West London for a service and they were fine.

My supplying dealer for the MK5 was Martins of Basingstoke and I used them too and they were always great, and then years later I've seen bad reviews of them too.

So I think like anything, you just have to cross your fingers and hope you get a good Tech whenever you go.

Good luck!

Lookers in Hersham have been better than I expected, helpful and pretty efficient. Not cleaned my car when asked, done things promptly, no dramas. Only thing I'm suspicious about is what they used my car for when I had to leave it overnight once. It had a wheelbearing changed yet for some reason they felt the need to retune my radio. I forgot to check the mileage though when I dropped it off so don't know how many miles it had covered with them. But other than that, fine.

Try and find an good independent specialist like 'Awesome GTI' who I am lucky to be close to in Manchester.
As soon as my car has it's second dealer service, I'm probably done with them.

These guys seem to get very good reviews. I have been there once, and they know their stuff.

Only 10 mins from me, close to Bromley.

Now my warranty has expired, my 35 Edition will be visiting these guys. I've been to meet them and they are the real deal, VW enthusiasts.
