Wheels & Suspension
« on: 21 August 2008, 13:54 »
I already posted a thread like this a while back, but it was lost when the forum went down .

Basically, I'm after a set of 18" rims, probably BBS CHs, for my Golf. After plenty of help, I've settled on 194/45/18 profile tyres (I think they're the fatter ones) with an offset of ET38. However, I'm sure what drop to go for suspension-wise.

The car is used everyday so needs to be practical. I've been advised against anything lower than a 30-35mm drop if I don't want to compromise the ride quality, but I've read on here that 40mm is OK

The other indecision is whether to go for springs or springs & shocks??? The car has only done 38k miles so the shocks should be good for a while longer, plus a 30-40mm drop isn't too drastic. I've spoke to Joe at Midlands VW who also reckoned the shocks wouldn't need changing, but I don't want to cut any corners if that's what not having shocks is effectively doing (if that makes sense).

Please help guys.

Thanks.

ps  Eibach -30 mm Springs on OEM shocks work a treat - Probably 10 times better than std!!  I've been running this set-up for a good 18 months, now (I think!!).

I can't comment on other set-ups though, I'm afraid.  (Apart from std, of course!).

Lower than what??

This is the tyre size you need to keep the rolling radius the same (i.e. keeps your speedo as accurate as possible). :afro:
