broken down ***UPDATE-New head bought!***
« on: 13 February 2011, 19:35 »
driving along, lost all power, car rolled to a stop. Turned key to see if car would start and starter spinning but doesnt sound like its connecting with anything if that makes sense? Or its spinning flywheel aswell but thats about it. Engine itself isnt turning over.

Cambelt or something else?

Ahh bugger, If its crapped out whilst going its not going to be the starter as to why its done it.

Need some audio of trying to start it ? Or take it to your mechanic if your not doing it yourself?

What lights are on on the dash when you turn the key to the final click before trying to start?

Sounds like cam belt to me?  Pull the top plastic pulley cover off and see if the belt is slack or just not there.

AA bloke has just come and said cambelt. Was still on there when he pulled cover over and looked tightish but he 100% sure.

Are there varying degrees of how bad it gets or am i defo guna have bent valves etc?

if you have no compression (whizzing starter motor), you have bent valves

Was the belt overdue to be changed?
