Tell me about it. Just under a 1K for nuts, bolts, bearings and bolts in the last year from VW.

Crazy init.

So I mixed the 2K lacquer with a dribble of reflex silver, a shot of Ford Panther black and what was in a rattle can of BMW Le Mans Blue.

Result was perfect. Can't believe what a difference metallic makes, most of the time don't even like it!

Can't wait to get it back together.

Ended up ordering polybushes for both front arm bushes as everyone on the TT forums are raving about them.

I'm going for a dark theme on this car so probably keep the calipers dark for now but who knows they might go red in the future.

So I got one wishbone done just to see what it's like:

Also went to TPS and got shafted for some seals, bolts, nuts, header tank & cap and some CV boot kits. Bit annoying paying like 60 quid when I bought some universal Lucas jobbies from Euros at 2.69 each. These have lasted 12 years though so all good.

Coming along now just slowly wiping any earnings out and with a Venice trip coming up I just want the spending to stop.

Some people might be wondering why on earth I bought so many new nuts and bolts but a lot are stretch bolts, I don't know how many times in the cars life they have been reused and I don't want my girlfriend crashing.

Can't understand why the outer CV boot kits come without nuts but the inner CV boot kits do.

So got the other driveshaft done.

Little guide to fitting new boots, removal is reversal of fitting!

Start out with the stripped apart driveshaft, clean all the grease out with brake cleaner. You can remove the balls easily on the outer CV's the inner is a bit more tricky. Clean right up and check for wear and pitting. These seemed fine which is impressive at nearly 170k.

Get your CV boot kit:

Spray some WD40 on the shaft where the boot will sit just to aid installation.

Slide the boot right down, this is the inner CV joint and has no clip on the inside end.

Cut your grease open:

Get it deep as possible and go around the whole joint squeezing as much in as possible:

Move it up and down spreading the grease:

Now align the CV over the shaft and give it a tap on with a rubber or nylon mallet.

Get the new clip open with the circlip pliers:

Place it on like so:

Lift the joint away from the shaft as far as possible to lower the grease down:

Put cap on and tap on with mallet:

Open up your clip and put it on:

You then need to crush the dogeared tab with a pair of snips but I am awaiting a replacement pair of CV clip pliers.

Now the outer:

First job put the small clip on, don't open it up it's a b!tch to get back together:

Now this ridge you can see makes it a total arse to side the plastic boot on:

I use a screwdriver or something to get under and roll around while pushing but when it's on it should look like this:

You can crush the clip if you like or leave it for now.

The metal washer goes on first with the widest point facing away from the shaft:

Then plastic and the two widest points touch:

New circlip on by pushing as so, to open it up to get it on would open it wider than needed:

Now turn your attention to the CV and the grease:

Place grease and squeeze as so:

As much in as poss:

Now get your finger and push into every crevice possible and move the shaft around so that every ball is well greased. Not sure what happened to the last picture...

Now line the CV up and place it on til it hits the clip. I like to put the boot on loosely at this point:

Now use the OLD nut (I used a new as it was to hand and I have several spare), wind it on a few threads:

Use a punch in the center or a rubber mallet and tap hard until it slides all the way on. Note the cloth on the floor to protect the other end.

Again, do up all the clips. Put the dogears opposite eachother.

Done:
