Mk2 Dash Speakers..
« on: 06 November 2003, 12:44 »
Looking to add some to the dash next week..

I found out (correct me if I'm wrong) that they are 9cm (3.5") and the only ones I have been able to track down are :

Infinity (Ref-3002CF) 75W(Pk)

JBL (GTO326) ?W

Alpine (SXE-0825S) 60W(Pk)

Anyone used any of these before and offer thoughts on quality etc.. ?

The other alternative is to mount them in the door pockets, but I would have to get some grills etc and unsure on the size of the speakers that fit in them..

Paul.

I have a set of Alpine SXE-0825's in front of me right now. Good little speakers.

13cm ones fit in the door pockets. Well worth it if you've got the adapters. I just took out the dash speakers and replaced them with 160w(40w) Alpines with 1in tweeters on the dash. They sound good.

The adapters are on ebay a lot, but going for ?20 which is far more than they are new! I think they're ?5.60 new. I found mine by chance in a scrappy.

Yay !

Just bought some grills from the VW dealer and they only cost me just over ?10.00 !

Can't believe people sell them for 20 quid on ebay when you can buy them new from the dealer for that price !

Part No. if anyone is interested is 191 867 149 LN8 (LN8 being the colour varient - black or brown is available)

Interesting how on a lot of trim parts VW prices are amazingly ok.

Been meaning to get one of those for ages. I always end up breaking the drivers door one by kicking it when getting out of the car!

They do a brown version  :o

I know it's insane!
I bought a Audi 2.2 throttle body with some bits hanging off it and those adaptors from the scrappy for ?15. I was told to expect ?25 for the throttle body alone ;D

I used black acoustic cloth instead of a new grill as a temp fix.
I layed the cloth behind the speaker holder then placed the speaker over it.
Looks much curved then that flat grill.

I left mine open

It's ok, but the GF almost put her foot through her side one, so I might be rethinking that...

I coverd mine up because I had a tip off that my car audio was being targeted by the local car audio robbers  >:(
