Title: polo 9n on m3 rims and kitted out... written off :(
Post by: andynorfolk on 14 May 2012, 21:09
so as above i decided on a 1.4tdi polo as it was in my price range and was cheap to insure and run and it obviously had to be a vdub, was a real head over heart buy! my bank balance had had enough of running my mk2 golf gti as a daily averaging about 30mpg :)

however saying that i can't be running a daily that doesn't look half decent  so the first thing i did was to colour code the awful front and rear valance, and all the bump strips and door handles

here she is all colour coded and cleaned up, i think it's a serious improvement over standard

i have also got hold of some bora sport alloys for the princely sum of £55  i have refurbed them in bmw sparkling graphite and have been fitted with new vw centres, i have also got a set of 165/50/16s ready to go on for a bit of stretch (about as much as you're gonna get on a 6.5j rim aha)

fillered and primered

end result

got some pressed plates and 100w bulbs on order atm and then i'll be selling the original wheels to fund some coilys and then she will be spaced out for a proper decent stance

and here's a shot of the mk2 gti, unfortunately she got hit so waiting to get funds together to get her back looking sweet again :)

this weekend me and my mate did a bit more work to the daily, fitted new pressed plates, debadged the rear, fitted a new stubby aerial and got my alloys and tyres on, also changed all the front bulbs to 100w bright white ones, only to find one of the filaments was busted on one, so guess i'll be taking the front bumper off again next week! :(

given her a good clean and wax too and she's looking just about right atm, except for the awful arch gap, never fear though, philj ta technix coilovers will be ordered this week along with shortened drop links so i can go proper low :D

anyway a few snaps :)

bumper off

cleaned up

and a couple repping the local vdub car club me and a few mates run :)

hopefully get spacers sorted once it's lowered then i'm thinking about a stickerbomb vinyl roof as my mate wraps cars for a living so won't cost much :P

coilovers and drop links should be here by the weekend so will be getting on that on saturday with my mate

then i'm gonna be getting a stage one map and some 15mm spacers for the front and that's about it i reckon :D
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow

look what turned up today  8-)

got a week off work now and hopefully my mate is coming over tomorrow so we can get them fitted!  :-D
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 30 May 2012, 23:02
progress so far is fronts are done, and back will be done tomorrow hopefully

small problem is that now my engine management light and abs light are on, i think the engine management is where i had to unplug and move some stuff to get to the strut housing, hopefully a good clean out tomorrow will sort that!

the abs light though i think could be where i accidentally hit one of the wires when knocking the original strut out of the housing on the hub, so may need to strip that and splice in a fresh bit of wire  :undecided:

hopefully should be able to get it sorted, cba with a garage bill
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 31 May 2012, 14:35
sorted the engine management light, took everything apart again and got the compressor to blow all the crap out!

abs light is still on but meh might take it to the garage next week sometime if i cba aha

backs are now on too sits alright atm, should sit better and lower once it's settled a bit

obviously it's wound all the way down all round

here's a picture of it freshly done

will wait until it's settled then may have to take the helper springs out on the front so i can get it down more

im just gonna get a generic stage 1 map which should add about 25 bhp 30 torque and about 4mpgs, not really bothered about the performance, but atm it's so sluggish it lacks the oomf to actually pass anyone

yours must way a ton in comparison to my fabia then

really don't have trouble passing people so long as you get abit of a run up. but if you have to slow down and then try to overtake it takes some doing aha.

where/how much they charge for the map?

my mate would be so pissed off if i got a map. he has a zetec s their only 100 n something bhp

i think they weigh the same really, but it feels slow as hell after driving a mk2 gti as a daily for a year :(

is yours 75bhp? there's a place called tdituning that sell tuning boxes with a generic stage 1 map on them, isn't as good as getting it serial port mapped on a rolling road but for the price it's hard to say no
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 01 June 2012, 10:24
ive been driving a 190bhp mk4

yea its the 75bhp. hmm what is the price on them?
not sure on tuning boxes.
you done the egr delete? ive been thinking about it

they're going for £120 on their website, but they're selling them on ebay for £80 and it is the same company. read up on them and have a look on their website, they look like the know what they're on about

hmm no i haven't tbh, not exactly sure how to do it aha

Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 01 June 2012, 10:51
£80 is not a bad price at all!

Same aha! didn't know what it was till i put a thread up about it. Knowing what it does makes me wanna get rid

yeah i know what it does, but you have to get a specialist pipe to delete it... just read up that some tuning places will delete it for you for like £100 so may look into that
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 01 June 2012, 12:21
most places sell the egr delete kit for like £60, but i can't find anywhere that supplies one for a 1.4tdi
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 01 June 2012, 12:44
it bolts to the intake manifold so you would need a short pipe manufactured to fit that and also a gasket, so not really something you can make yourself unless you can weld, i've emailed a company asking if they have any for a 1.4tdi
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow

Post by: andynorfolk on 02 June 2012, 23:36
cheers dude, 25mm spacers for the rear are being ordered friday along with a stage 1 tuning box and a genuine vw stubby aerial.

then gonna put the 20mm spacers currently on the back on the front and then it should be about right i hope
Title: Re: polo 1.4tdi, project low and really very slow
Post by: andynorfolk on 06 June 2012, 13:00
so 25mm spacers, tuning box and a genuine vw stubby aerial are gonna be ordered on friday :D

in the mean time some pictures of my mates gti edition 150tdi golf, such a nice ride! comes factory fitted with r32 kit, recaro leather and vw satnav unit :P

we adjusted the coilovers and gave it a real good clean, polish and wax so thought we'd get some snaps, just waiting on 10mm rear spacers and she's pretty much finished :D

Love the work you've done - it's a vast improvement from when you bought it - BUT I'm not sure about the black alloys...

IMO - I do think that about most cars that carry Black Alloys...

Must be old school and to me alloys should look like alloys - In Silver!!

they're actually bmw sparkling graphite and the pictures do them no justice whatsoever, they look brilliant in the sun, there's flecks in the paint and they really shine and look all different shades of grey in different light

Looking good mate... Going to try sway the gf toward one... Then i can slam it

they're a b!tch to slam, mine's wound down to the bottom of the coilovers all the way round and it's still about 20mm too high at the back and about 30mm to high at the front, but i don't wanna remove the helper springs and adjustable spring cups cause i drive it daily =/

after cutting it down i got it to fit perfectly and i'm really pleased with it :D

well mine's wound all the way down on the front with the helpers removed and the back has had the adjusters removed... i do get a noise from the front that i thought was a topmount but i replaced it and it still does it, so no idea what it is but it doesn't really bother me aha

Nice!!!! Might have to get myself down to a DD meet soon again! 17's look a little oversized for a small car, but it's all good!!! I reckon smaller spacers and slightly lower, get a bit of tuck going down! :D

arches on newer cars are massive mate, i had it on 16s and there was still arch gap, that's with rear adjusters out and front helper springs removed aha

Just what I was going to say! usually buy back at 10% of value, I would buy it back as you will get payed out as well. Good luck

Buy back is dependant on damage. I was paid out £1480 ish for my Corrado Valver, and bought it back for the measly sum of £34.20! I then sold that on for £175 for breaking.
