Title: 2011 Golf GTI MK6 - Timing chain tensioner gone. Engine dead? :'' (
Post by: DanielGolfGTI on 22 November 2018, 22:39
As the title says, had this fault confirmed today. I had no idea just how common a problem it is / was until it happened to me. I understand that it is a faulty part and bad design which they replaced with a better TC from 61 plate onwards. I would be very grateful if anyone can advise what my options are and how expensive they will be? Also if VW did any kind of recall at all and whether they would replace it at minimal / no cost as it is a bad flaw on their end (unlikely I know).

First is a whole new engine which is looking the most likely - had a little browse on the web and it is gonna be around £2k all in. It would be reconditioned and a gamble I suppose.

The second would be be new timing chain tensioner, but it depends what other damage has been done but have also been told it would be around £2k incorporating parts and labour, but also a gamble.

Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you
