Which type of GAP
« on: 16 January 2018, 20:59 »
Just purchased another Golf on PCP, I used the scrappage scheme £4k allowance and also got a further £3700 out of the margins.  Taking this into consideration what type of GAP do i need to protect myself and ensure I'm not out of pocket in the event of.

Replacement vehicle plus.... not return to invoice because the replacement will almost certainly cost more than the one you are buying now.

As above. Vehicle Replacement Plus, especially if you got a hefty discount on list price, which you might not achieve again.

I’d use manufacturers on the road list price, including the price of any factory fitted options.

Also, don’t buy GAP from VW. It’s way overpriced. Buy it direct from a specialist GAP insurance company like ALA, GAP insurance 123 or Direct GAP (there will be others). Also, worth searching out any GAP insurance discount codes on the internet to reduce the price further.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Use total car price before any discounts.
I got quoted £261 by car2cover then phoned ALA  who quoted £360, but then dropped it to £248 when I told them  car2cover quote.
Based on £32500 invoice for 4 yrs cover.
Collected and being driven....... Gti PP 5dr DSG Tornado red, tints and Brescia's.

Also check your car insurance policy documents, some do a new for old replacement on cars that are less than 12 months old. You can then take out gap before the car is 12 months old.

Found that out myself only this week - Quote me Happy docs state that if repair costs are 60% or more of the list price of the car (write off) or the car is stolen and not recovered and is less than 12 months old a new car of the same specification will be provided.
