Recommended diagnostic kits
« on: 21 October 2017, 19:06 »
I've just borrowed and ELM327 interface and ScanTool software to have a look at some codes on my Mk5 golf.

I got the software loaded up on an old Windows7 laptop and eventually got it all working together (getting Windows7 to put the bluetooth reader onto COM3) only to be told that the plugin was showing as a non-genuine unit and the software would not work with it!

So, given the current cars and likely future cars I'm considering getting something myself.

Do I just locate a genuine ELM327 unit OR are there more modern devices and or softwares that I would be better off getting now?
