Title: Spare wiper switch anyone?
Post by: PDWC on 19 July 2017, 14:01
I am having great difficulty find a wiper switch for my '88 Gti. The part number is:
191 953 503 M
The hazard switch for my car is on the dashboard, not the steering column, and it has the MFA switch on the end of the stalk.
Everything works except the wash/wipe (potential MOT fail!)
Auto electrician has narrowed issue down to this switch
Tried most of the breakers in the SE for a second hand part
Got a very dodgy part on EBay which is on its way back to Lithuania!
HELP!

Is it the early type? Hazard switch on dash suggests CE1 fusebox but car being '88 suggests CE2 ????? Have you got a pic of the one currently in the car? If its the early type, which I think it may be if your having trouble finding one, then one from a MK1 golf/scirocco would also fit so you could try searching for one of those on flea bay. I do have an early type 'un but I'm pretty sure its toast!

Thanks Brighouse. Pretty much Ebay'd out (and shafted by rogue seller!) hence plea on this forum!
I'm thinking about converting to later types of switches. Any idea if a Mk3 ignition barrel fits my steering column?

Not too sure on the mk3 barrel/stalks fitting?! But by the time you've messed around pulling this and swapping that you may as well just source the part you need! There's a few stalks floating around on flea bay now, circa £50-£80.
