 ???

To every one with a mark 3 that cuts out.
Join the AA I spent ?600 on a full cam belt service from my local VW main dealer
Told them about the cutting out and they could not find a thing wrong with it.
Packed in last week called the AA out was not getting enough voltage to the coil.
Suspect immobiliser
? 40 a year well spent.
Car running fine for a week like having a new car.

I keep getting an intermittent fault code on mine..."engine start blocked by immobiliser."

This randomly happens while trying to start (obviously) and often doesn't rear its ugly head for weeks at a time.

Maybe the VW immobiliser starts to go senile after a certain age!

I'm thinking about disconnecting the VW immobiliser.

?600 for a full cambelt service :o :o :o :o :o :o

I spent ?200 on a full service and cambelt change from my specialist. Even the local main stealer quoted ?350.

Could get a whole new (recon ;) ) engine for that.....

OK, so how easy is it to disconnect the vw immobiliser then? What wire can I hack at with an axe? (things are getting bad with the cutting out now)....

does your insurance require you to have one on an 8v? (i have to for the valver). if so you dont have have an aftermarket alarm already you might need one.

whichever way, your best bet if not doing it yourself is an alarm specialist.

How much did it cost you to have the immobiliser disconected - seriously thinking about having it done, know anyone good in Cardiff area???
I have an autowatch Cat2 immobiliser too, so no worries with insurance or security in that respect.

if its just disconnection it'd be at their hourly labour cost.. so under 50 quid easily.. maybe as low as 30/35

About 18 months ago when i first bought my mk3, it started randomly cutting out on the move. I took it to the dealer who said I had to have a new immobiliser fitted. My dad said this was crap, so I went down to the local specialist who said it was the ignition barrel. I got the barrel changed and have had no cutting out since!
Mine is a '97 gti 8v with 67K on the clock.
