cheers bud

Bought and fitted some mk4 upgrade aero wipers today, picking up a SLCR splitter from TPS tomorrow and I have ordered a 4motion rear valance, so when i get the full stainless fitted it will have the cut out for it  :) also ordered some Wolfsburg plate surrounds. Thinking of buying some FK vents but on the fence with them atm, might look too 'messy' with the splitter? TPS are selling the headlights for £75 each (vw £117 each) so in a couple of weeks im going to buy a pair and then anni them  :)

couple of pics from today, hasnt been washed for a while  but looks clean in the pics :?

That is a good looking Bora. Suggest now you get your hands on a full heated leather interior like mine - very comfy

haha yeah, when people ask me why the get low sticker is on there i just tell them its coz i like to get 'crunk'  like lil john. The seats are already heated ... was thinking of going for a black/creme leather re-trim  wont be for a while tho as i reckon it would be close to 1k ?

Nice mate, not dis-similar to mine. Luckily bought mine mapped, millteked and lowered. I think the bora's need very little to look good.

I've just changed my wheels actually, going to give her a good clean and wax tonight ready for stoner park tomorrow then will get some pics up. Mines only dropped 30mm but looks miles better and is low enough if you use it every day!

Look forward to some updates with koni's on.
Title: Re: Bye bye 156 ... hello Bora 1.8T Lowered!!!
Post by: dubsport on 08 June 2010, 18:14
Thanks mate! yours looks  in your sig, picked mine up today after being lowered on the konis, hoping the springs will settle down more as the front now looks higher  back looks alot lower tho, im really happy with the ride comfort feels like standard springs till you chuck it into a corner and it sticks to the road and no body roll

here is a pic, not great as its raining really heavy outside and she is pretty dirty + missing centre caps

Kamei grille STILL has'nt turned up, in two days it will be a month since i ordered it  :undecided: i have be assured it will be with me b the end of the week .. heard that 3 times already tho so we will see  Next up is full Powerflow exhaust :afro:

I do like bora's, not so much the low spec ones, but when they have nice wheels and a drop they look awesome, and personally think thats all they really need.

Heres some inspiration Rich (not that you need it after your previous rides :D)

Looking good mate :) What made you choose springs rather than coilovers?
cheers mate, couple of reasons really. I had those Hottuning coilies fitted to my mk3 and it totally ruined the car in my opinion, was so bouncy could hardly keep the car on the road  the other reason was that i wasnt really planning on going lower then 40mm as it is my daily car so would have been a waste getting coils and the last thing was that i couldnt be bothered to buy a modified ARB and shortened droplinks to go lower then 40mm  :undecided: so springs seemed the better option.

You make me want a Bora.

thanks bud always nice to hear stuff like that

Totally agree with you mate, need very little done to them to look good. Howerver i am planning to smooth the bumpers and delete the rear vw badge  :lipsrsealed:

Post by: Dec on 13 June 2010, 20:17
Fair play on the coilover/springs decision mate, I forgot that the mk4 golfs/bora's need the ARB and drop links changing. So much effort! Audi's are a different setup so its not needed to be changed when lowering :undecided:

Yea my mates one has a US bootlid  Looks clean without the badge!

Thanks wayne

Got the sports cat and powerflow exhaust system fitted today, dont know if its because of the sound or the sports cat and wider pipe but it seems to accelerate quicker  said that i wanted a middle silencer on as i dont want it loud, one wasnt fitted so it will be going back soon to get a middle silencer as it sounds like a Impreza WRX

Will get a better pic of it on the car this week, but these are the pics the bloke at the shop took ...

In the sig pic my mate let me borrow his grille (as the Kamei mesh grille still hasnt turned up, nearly been 3 months) I really like the look of the de-badge grille so if the Kamei one doesnt turn up soon il be cancelling that order and buying a badgeless one!

I have done some bits on my engine bay recently like the bypass valve mod etc, wont be winning any awards for looks  but it is slowly going in the right direction :afro: I have a carbon fibre Pipercross Velocity Intake System i will be fitting when I can get round to buying a breather filter, the sytem looks like this

Im going to be polishing the inlet manifold and powder coat the rocker cover metallic black to match the cars paintwork etc

KAMEI GRILLE ARRIVED TODAY !!!  only 10 weeks after I ordered it

Rang up Venom motorsport yesterday to find out where my induction kit is as it been nearly a month, apparently the pipercross factory has run out of one of the parts for the kit, so I have to wait til they get it in  also need to replace my windscreen as a BT van when flying past me today kicked a stone up and CRACK

Future Plans are:

Smooth bumpers, fill bonnet notch and delete the rear VW badge
Coilovers
18'' alloys with black centres and polished dish
Stage 2 Jabba remap and FMIC
New headlights and going to Joey mod them and then HIDs
R32 style side skirts
Replace rubber pipes with silicone ones and generally tart up the engine bay

Dropped her off for a full service and cambelt change on Sunday! Also having the boot handle looked at as it won't open the boot I have to use the key, K&N breather filter turned up and just waiting on my pipercross induction kit! Yet another item that is taking ages to get delivered!

Next on the list is to save up for some coilovers and then smooth bumpers, bonnet notch filled and rear vw badge deleted ... possibly some wind deflectors

The rocker cover has been dropped off to be powder coated metallic black, picking it up in a week or two and here is the inlet manifold after some polishing! going to have a go a fitting it tomorrow, any advice for taking the old one off and fitting the polished one?

copied from another forum from friday ...

Been trying to fit the induction kit since 9am, proper ball ache ... I was one jubilee short and the rubber connector pipes are sh!t and have ripped to pieces plus the silicone or rubber they are made from are really slippy so when you tighten the jubilee clips they just slide off. Waited over a month for it to be delivered and pretty disgusted how badly made it is for the big price tag ...so my old man is now driving me to sca rally to see if they have any better bits of pipe!!

Quote
Sorted!!! Went to a plumbing place as a last resort and the had exactly what I was looking for! Proper heavy duty rubber connectors with really good jubilee clips :D will get a picture for comparrison ... Bottom line, Pipercross are gettin a snotty letter from me :)

PHWOOAAR!!!

Post by: dubsport on 28 July 2010, 18:50
Just some replica one's mate, does make the car look 'classier' they will do til I can afford some wiiide split rims :)

Started refurbing the alloys today, realised one of them has a crack on the inside, hopefully can get it fixed  :undecided: as im doing the refurb myself I know they wont be in any way perfect but it will do till I can afford some split rims or something ..

The centres are good but the dishes need polishing again, here is what they look like

Then I sanded away most of the curbing, which left me with this

After that I started sanding down the whole dish to get rid of the 'pitted' look

Then some wet and dry

YEEEEAAAAAAH so this could take some time lol, took me about 2 hours to get to that stage! Its not so bad tho, my girlfriend was supplying me with coffee and foxes bisquits and had the tunes going! haha.

Post by: BiGUKG on 03 August 2010, 00:28
Got a small soft spot for Bora's, my brother has a 2.3 V5 and he loves it even though it's a bit thirsty. He's had a MK4 GTi and he said it handles loads better because it seems so much more balanced but that's his opinion not mine, not driven either!

Yours is spot on though mate, colour, wheels, exhaust, all looks spot on. Quite subtle but looks lovely! And definitely a fan of those lights!

cheers mate  thats the look im trying to go for ... subtle but mean  a few people have said the Bora's seem to handle better, something to do with the boot making it more rigid?

Sprayed the rear badge matt black on thursday, hope the GLI rear lights turn up soon really want to get them on

Cheers dude, I love the grille ... but have recently been thinking of swapping it for a de-badge grille (have a brand new mk4 GTI grille badge kicking about that I bought for my mk3 and never fitted)  :undecided: Im really happy I went for the Bora instead of the Golf .. would make a good project

Was meant to have a better update today but my rocker cover still isnt back from being powder coated metalic black, my gold bolts to hold down the Audi S3 coil packs were dispatched today, im still waiting for my GLI lights from the US and I havent even attempted to fit my leather arm rest yet  BUT i will put some pics up of whats been happening to the old girl this week. On monday I recieved my genuine sunglasses holder from AwesomeGTI  :smug: it such a good idea, in person it blends in well to the headligning but in the pic it doesnt

Then yesterday my mate Adam came over to help my fit my polished manifold we (I say we ... mainly Adam lol) aslo changed the manifold gasket and throttle body gasket and cleaned the injectors, also bought some new injector seats but didnt have the right tool to get the old ones out so will have to fit them another time! Couldnt believe the amount of crap sitting on top of the valves, any way cracked the trusty vacum cleaner out and voila like new

Like I said earlier was hoping to have pics with the new manifold on but will post this one of how the engine is atm, we also hid the wires near the injection rail.... think it looks loads better

Also a massive thankyou to my ''Special genuine Bora tools''.... literally anything we couldnt get off, get to, undo etc these did the job!!! couldnt have done it without them, also they pere pretty good at making adam bleed

With Adams help fitted the wind deflectors, I know these are a bit of a marmite mod like bonnet bras but I think they look foookin sweet on the Bora, I couldnt be trusted to fit them as I snapped the set I tried to fit to the 156

Got a 7 piece silicone pipe set for the coolnt system from THS to fit when i can be bothered too lol

Thanks mate!! :afro:

I had a go at fitting the 7 black silicone hoses for the coolant system yesterday, managed to fit 5 of them ... then ran out of day light lol. I have also just ordered two more silicone hoses in blue, the turbo inlet pipe and the upper breather hose. My gold anodised bolts turned up for the S3 bolt down coil packs today as well and I should hopefully be getting my rocker cover back this week (being powder coated metallic black) so the engine bay should be looking pretty  beginning of next week!!!

Last had an oil change 3 weeks ago when it had a full service including engine flush, new oil filter and £35 oil. Just dropped it off at my dads mates garage on the way there it felt as tho the turbo wasn't boosting at all... Got my old mans 1.9TDI A6 Avant to drive about in til I get the bora back ... thanks for the replies lads :afro: had a call from Shaffi today he thinks it could be the valve seals that have perished and not the turbo seals as it is dry in the throttle body so I guess thats a good thing as I was thinking the turbo was going to have to be re-built. So that sorts the smoking out of the exhaust.

With regards the oil pressure light  he said he was going to check the return pipe and oil pump today, hopefully it will just be the return pipe thats clogged up.

While she is at the garage I aske him to fit 2 of the silicone coolant pipes I couldnt fit (5 outta 7 aint bad ) also the silicone turbo inlet pipe and the lower oil breather pipe with silicone one.

This better get fixed or your banned!

dont worry mate she will be getting fixed regardless, dropped her off on the garage sunday, miss that bloody thing so much  :embarassed:

Title: Re: Game over!
Post by: dubsport on 10 October 2010, 19:57
Just had a phone call from the mechanic and long story short I need a new engine ...

My mechanic has'nt totally stripped the engine down yet but from what he has done there was quite a list of things wrong, first up the seals on the turbo have perished and the turbo was burning the oil causing the heavy smoking out of the exhaust. The oil pump has gone and when he drained the oil there was alot of metal filings in it and in the bottom of the sump so something is obviously wearing away. I knew the clutch didnt like 3rd gear occasionally but he said that is on the way out also oh and it also needs a new water pump. The car has done 113k miles, I dont see much point in re-building the engine so basically im going to have to try and find a new engine/gearbox/turbo and fit that in the ol' girl or break her and look for another Bora or maybe a mk4 Golf and before anyone jumps in and says anything about the mechanic leading me on etc I trust him 100% as he has done the work on all my cars and my familes for as long as I can remember!

so break or fix? ...... opinions?
Title: Re: Game over!

you will be lucky to find a low mileage replacement lump - i know - i am looking  :lipsrsealed:

so you could be in the same boat ( no pun intended ) position again unless you are will to pay out for a warrantied recon engine

id price up the new engine & ancillaries (when sourced) beofre making a decision is a shame to break but it all depends on how much a recond or just a replacement will cost! bad news mate sorry to hear this!

I reckon get it sorted mate and keep it, you'll be so much more proud of it than u were already if u do, it would be such a shame to get rid of it, bit by bit too.

Tbh, I can't talk from experience, as I've only been driving my first car since the beginning of June, a 1.3 MK2 Golf with GTi bits, it's got nearly the whole bodykit, lights wheels etc just needs big bumpers, and all I've done to it is put a GTi grille on it and smoked side repeaters apart from the other stuff my brother did before he sold it to me. He had major problems with it which cost a fortune to sort and get it through an MOT - but he didn't scrap it and I know he's so glad he didn't, so I've always said whatever it needs doing to it, I'll get it done, even if I have to buy a f*cked £150 Fiesta and drive it for a few months while I do it.

I know you have to consider all the options mate, but really if you like the car that much and you're that proud of it, there is only one option...........

Break it and buy an Audi

It's going to cost you at least 1K in bits unless you can find a complete engine for peanuts otherwise you have to factor in the cost of the replacement engine along with a reconned or new turbo, water pump, cambelt kit, clutch etc etc

How much will your guy charge you to replace the engine?

Picking up a new engine Saturday, 93k miles on the clock, then im going to swap all the good parts over from my engine as it just had new cambelt done etc and all the shiney bits. Going to ditch the DMF and replace it for a VR6 Clutch and 02a flywheel. while the engine is out going to have new water pump fitted and if there is time steam clean and paint the new block ... maybe.

Anyway bit of an up date, here is how the AMG wheels are looking, polished the dish and new centre caps! still on the fence wheter I should buy the adapters and run these wheels or sell them and powdercoat my RS4's black ...

It was a rapid Passat 2.5 did 140MPH no problem, but being diesel the viens just kept closing up. Got rid of it in the end, but I know what its like without the car for months.

Thanks for the replies :afro: Im pretty happy with the wheels, but like you guys have said they would look so much better without the giant arch gap ... and to think the car has already been lowered 40mm   coilovers are on the christmas list but I don't hold out much hope for that  might go for some rear spacers, but will see how she sits after fitting coillies!

Changed the carbon/pollen filter today beacuse, well why not hey!?  old one is on the left, new one on the right :afro:

Think I prefer it with this look, suits the alloys better.

With regards to the Remap, was gonna get Revo done today, but the place wouldnt do stage 1 remap and sort out the engine light (fault code is excessive flow through cat, caused by the sports cat) they kept telling me I had to go stage 2 ... so she is now booked into R-Tech at 12pm Thursday

Unfortunately the ABS and ASR lights have come on, done some research and looks like the f**kING thing needs a new MAF
Title: Re: Bora 1.8T ST ... Face lift
Post by: Dec on 13 December 2010, 19:03
Mate, get some compressed air and blow it ( :lipsrsealed: lol) into the MAF. Might just be a dirty sensor, or a quick temporary fix! My car started juddering under load, changed the air filer and done that to the MAF and it sorted it right out :afro:

Good news on the Remap! Really want to get my car done but need to wait till I can afford a new clutch just incase first

Updates, how has the remap gone? Don't tell me you've blown another engine!  :lipsrsealed:

Funny you say that mate

I haven’t been on here in a while lots of things going on and been away to Poland to snowboard over the New Year but I’m back now so can kind of update this! couple of weeks ago went down to R-tech to get the ol' girl remapped, turned up at Adams house and he kindly fault read the Bora ... 13 fault codes popped up   a lot of them we things like removing coil packs without disconnecting the battery first etc... the more important ones however were that the front right ABS sensor was broken, it has a boost leak somewhere, the temp sensor was broken and oh yeah the camshaft timing sensor  so we cleared all the codes and about 9am we fuelled up with bacon butties at Mc Donald’s and started the journey! on the way down realised the temp gauge was sitting about 60/70 then going up to 80 then back down to 50 and so on

Got to R-tech they did the stage one map but then said they wouldn’t be able to put her on the RR as the timing is out and could potentially mean that I could need another engine lol. It was a fun drive back home even though it was in a blizzard, totally different car now! Took the car back to the mechanic that did the engine swap/cam belt change etc and left it with him, to do the timing, clutch slave cylinder and the few sensors that needed changing! Got a phone call yesterday and he said the ABS sensor was fubar that’s been replaced, the temp sensor and thermostat have been replaced, also the clutch slave cylinder has been done, he apologised about the timing and said that he holds his hands up that the timing was one tooth out. R-tech had said that you need to be careful when tensioning as it can jump a tooth. So just waiting on a phone call to say I can pick her up!

Picking up an armrest tomorrow or at the weekend as my dad broke mine, lol, that’s about it for now! :afro:

Got the car back and she's pretty lively now she's all timed up properly

Collected the genuine arm rest and im really happy with it!! You can feel the difference in quality between genuine and that tacky ebay one and it fits perfectly as apposed to wobbling about like the ebay one haha. Luckily it blends into the interior as well, oh and it was only 40 notes  :afro:

My mate has fitted an anni valance to his Golf so I took the 4mo valance off his hands, needs a little modding to fit it by cutting a few tabs off but its in excellent condition and im fed up of scraping the cupra splitter so it will do for now

Gave the ol' girl a wash and polish today, tomorrow if i get time im going to wash it again, but crack out the intensive tar remover and go over the majority of the car as its caked in it!!! After that will give her another polish and wax

Had a bit of trouble when lowering it, basically the arb and drivers side driveshaft constantly rubbed, needed 3mm spacers up front to actually get the wheels on and then if i drive to fast the tyres rub on the inside of the arch if i go over the tinyest bumps or dips  the back is wound all the way down and the front is down about half way, i have some shortened droplinks that my mate modified for me but they made the arb rub even worse so looks like im going to be buying an uprated arb and then she WILL be going lower

I ordered some Reiger (i think they are) side skirts, kinda a cross between anniversary and r32 so looking forward to those turning up!

Oh yeah and the clutch that has been fitted for like 3 months is now slipping! happy days!

Post by: dubsport on 23 March 2011, 17:04
Been thinking about it for a while and I wasnt 100% happy with how the Bora looked, so I have decided to change a few things  First up is the front end, I like the look of the SLCR splitter but to me something just doesnt look 'right'. My perferct front bumper would be a genuine Votex one, and there is one on ebay atm, but I cant really justify paying £350 for a bumper that needs prep work and then to be painted would just cost too much. So after seeing how good my mates Anni kit looked after he fitted it onto his golf I knew this was the way it was going to have to be. Although, I will still dream of having a genuine Votex bumper one day

As I type this the anni skirts and front valance are ...

Quote
Parcel Picked up  23/03/11  13:32   LEEDS SERVICE CENTRE

I have also  bought Some headlights to replace my tired looking cloudy ones, when they turn up they will be going straight into the oven and getting the Joey mod treatment :afro: Staying on the subject of lighting I have removed my rear GLI lights and gone back to the standard ones ... although they got the red tint spray job  opinions?

Collected my new interior on Sunday, heated black leather seats, doorcards and armrest :) pretty much mint, these pictures don't really do them justice!

Had a trial fitting of the strut brace, will be fitting this tomorrow 8)

and finally I have deciced to sell these wheels and go for some replica Audi A6 rims, so if anyone is looking for a swap? :D

Seriously dude thank you very much, comments like that make all the scuffed knuckles worthwhile!

I bought a Kestrel machine polisher, my mate who used to be a panel beat showed me how to use it properly and here are the results after using G3 cutting compound and then 1 coat of poor boys black hole polish, needs alot more tho but im proper happy with how it turned out. It removed the really long scratch on my bonnet (2ft) and has removed nearly all the swirl marks and scratches. I have to admit I only did the bonnet and the boot because, well the weather was awesome so went to the beer garden

Wish I had a better camera as these look quite fuzzy, oh well ...

I WISH it was warm enough to be wearing a tank top  It's actually a T-shirt that says ''I'm not a gynecologist, but i'll take a look''

Washed the car in fairy liquid to remove the layers of wax and polish. Then I used a dual action Kestrel machine polisher, cutting pad and some G3 compound. after that buffed of the compound with a micro fibre cloth then  polished it up with Poor boys ''black hole'' polish .... really should get on and do the other panels

Well my headlights turned up the other day, so will be Joey modding them soon, they have fog lights tho ... so if the fogs dont work with the different light switch I think im going to wire up twindicators lol or maybe another side light? Strut brace fitted this morning, did'nt think it would make much of a difference but it really firms up the handling!

I also have a spare engine cover in front of the inlet manifold so I have been cutting and shaping the spare stay tuned to see how it turns out ;) My FK anti roll bar turned up this morning and the car is booked in to get it fitted friday morning! So the front can come down mooooooore! After removing the interior to collect the leathers I decided to fit my 15" sub back in, was rattling the parcle shelf like crazy befor so I have put a layer so carpet underlay between the parcle shelf and metal enclosed boot, sounds awesome and no more rattling! Pic of the sub fitted and ARB and shortened droplinks ready to be fitted friday!

Couple of reasons, my dad doesnt use his tdi a6 any more so I may as well drive it and I have applied to the London fire brigade, so if I get in I wouldn't really need a car in London. If I HAVE to sell her I will be gutted as I had plans for some nice alloys, stage 2 and air :lipsrsealed: but will see I guess!

Surely after the effort you've put into this it would make more sense to sell the audi, and if you get into the fire brigade (best of luck by the way) you'd prob still need a car to get to and from work and generally get about in and you'll be doing 4 on 4 off so youll have 3 - 4 days for tinkering  in conclusion I see no good reason to sell your car

So you've got a 1.8T with a small blower and your pointing and laughing at 240BHP V6's?

It's not just about the power with the R32, it's the looks, the handling and the soundtrack.

Don't think the mk4 looks nice at all, mk5 looks spot on. They handle fantastically and the sound of any v6 is a thumbs up. But it was boring to drive and not thrilling. Felt very calm even at high speed which is why I'd rather say no too it and go for the cheaper 8L s3 1.8T k04 setup which will rock the socks off.

Still on the fence as to whats happening the ol' girl :undecided: but il cross that bridge when I come to it! Lately I had noticed the coolant was going down steadily, so did some investigating and located it to the coolant temp sensor housing, my mate Adam confirmed the name of it as I was just refering to it as "the plastic pipe thing that has 3 other pipes going into it" :smug: Im very technical ya see. Whilst I was going to have to drain all the coolant out anyway I thought it would be rude not to replace the expansion bottle, gotta' admit you guys were right! dont know why I didn't do it earlier! Just makes my washer bottle look manky now :embarassed:

So today mainly consisted of this, a good old fashioned tinkering ...

Got the old pipe off and well you can see where a big chunk of plastic is missing

Got pulled by the 5-0 earlier .... again! Saw him pull out behind me at a roundabout, followed me down the by-pass for about half a mile then the ol blues and two's came on, so pulled over (knew it was coming anyway lol). Walked up to my window and said:

"The reason I have pulled you over is because of your insurance, now it says you have insurance but I noticed your car is modified"

Told him who i was insured through and that it was a modified car policy (which it is but he didn't check ... maybe he already knew that lol). He then went on to say:

"I'm also worried that you're running your car so low the tyres cant actually turn without hitting the arches, can you turn the wheels on full lock?"

So I did, and then he came out with:

"Oh, right! it goes up!"

Even now im not too sure what he meant by it goes up but he seemed to be happy, he then went on to say:

"Well at least you have done it properly, im for ever pulling lads over with wheels that are constantly hitting the arches, cut springs that just not safe to be on the road. A lot also seem to have crashed into Halfords with sticky tape (I think he had been waiting to say that line to somebody lol). Very nice car mate, thank you!"

Then just got back in his car, came up along side me at the next roundabout gave me the thumbs up and went. Nice chap

I really don't know mate, none of the models seem to have a consistent interior. I prefer the headrests with out the holes but on uk mkivs a couple of users have said they have no idea what my seats are as they seem to be a mix of different styles lol

Well we replaced the front brake discs and pads a few weeks ago, left the rears as we didn't have the correct tool to compress the caliper piston! On thursday my mate helped me change the rears and well ... umm, i'm sure Ads will tell you they needed changing  the pads were pretty much siezed on and when we took the pads off one of them crumbled to pieces

To keep in with the OEM+ look of the car I decided to paint the calipers silver/black, was gonna go for red but, they are standard brakes so nothing to draw attention to  Really happy with how they came out, look new :afro:

Behind the wheel  lil' bit of product placement  really good tyre cream, when it rains even my tyres have beading

Got bored so gave the car a wash and Meguiars carnuba deep crystal wax, went to a meet that night, then the next day washed and waxed the car again. Can't recommend the stuff enough, gives a really deep shiny look 'just like it says on the bottle  ' It's hard to show in the pics how clean/shiny the car is but you get the idea :)

Me and Ads did this...

Then stopped to eat this

Fixed massive boost leak and fitted some 5mm spacers all round, would be rude not to wind the front down a bit more so it now sits like this

Then took some pics

DH I love the fact you have no idea of the circumstances but you still have to chirp up

To everyone else, thanks, tbh im happy it was just me in the car. Yeah I'm ok just have a sore neck this morning and stiff shoulders but that's to be expected I guess. Basically it rained quite heavy yesterday as I was approaching a corner (55mph heard that's the most economical speed ) a lorry came round the opposite way and his wheels were over the white lines on my side of the road. I braked heavily to avoid hitting him, aquaplaned, weaved about the road trying to get control but the car just spun out and chucked me in a hedge. Some one phoned the police, had two police cars turn up and they said when they got out was it just a case of going to fast, told them what happened and also that my mfa was showing 35mpg so I couldn't have been booting it  which they found funny.

My girlfriends dad owns a garage/mot station/body shop so his mate turned up and towed me out (wasn't fun getting it on the tow truck being so low haha did smash my bumper :( ) when I got to his garage he initially said it looked like a write off. But he is getting it on the ramp today and having a good look over it. Hopefully it can be fixed. If not looks like il be buying a little run about car and look at fitting the engine/dash into a mk2  :undecided:

Damn! Just been having a read through this thread as you've done a load of work since I last looked but I'm not liking the ending so far  :undecided:

Glad you're ok though mate, that's the main thing!

Wasn't a soft landing in the hedge then? Looking at the pic I thought maybe you'd get away with it being sent to a bodyshop for a bit.

Bad times, I had the same once when a car cut a blind corner coming the other way!... I swerved to avoid it and then lots of trees, spun, managed to save it but smacked up a couple of wheels and their bearings. (offending driver never stopped)

No visual damage to the body then other than the bumper?

Glad you're alright.

You can kinda make out in the grass where i came off ... backwards.

the drivers side sill is bent and was stopping the drivers door shutting, the rear quateris all smashed and the arch, rear door on the passenger side doesnt line up and lots of scratches as it was hawthorn hedge and metal fencing. No idea of the damage underneath the car but it was quite a bank I hit before going in the ditch. Yeah Shaun couldnt belive the lorry driver just drove off. w@nker.

Well not to be morbid but get some more pics of it now it's out...  Everything can be fixed, its now about how much you want it to be and is it worth it.  you've seen what mine went through!

Although its wrong, it was in the truck drivers best interest to keep going.  Did he even know what he had done?

I've done that in a 4 wheel drive car

Cant thank my girlfriends dad enough. Absolute legend. He had a look at it yesterday in his mot station and did the following, drivers door and offside rear door are now aligned and hung properly, all 4 tyres have been removed sealed and re-seated, luckily no damage to the wheels, the arb had moved slightly to one side so that's been loosened off moved over to the correct place and tightened up again, fixed the front bumper back on (ripped off getting it off the tow truck) tracking done and wheels balanced. So she is back on the road! He is a really strict mot tester and his daughter will be in the car so I guess he was the best person to look over it and make sure it was safe to drive :)

Next on the list is to find a rear quater panel and he said he will fit and paint it in his body shop :afro: h wouldn't accept and money for it so a box of cigars and a bottle of whiskey will have to do

Title: Re: waiting sucks!
Post by: dubsport on 20 September 2011, 12:11
Right then!

In between jobs at the moment (have an induction tomorrow) so progress has been slow. But some OSSUM news, my girlfriends dad said that in October he will panel beat all the dents out of the rear quarter and respray it

A pic of the damage ..

Few ideas of what way to go with the car right now tho.

Option 1.... Alloys totally gloss black, even the dishes and spray/wrap the car a dark matt graphite colour.

Option 2.... Save my money for a few months and then 17'' BBS RS's & GLI chrome trim.

Option 3.... Sell it when its all fixed and buy a Nissan Silvia S15 or Passat B6. Pictures like this dont help ...

Option 4.... Black wheels and Golf front end with R32 front bumper.

Option 5.... Realise its just a car and just drive the thing

Option 6: air  :lipsrsealed:
Title: Re: waiting sucks!
Post by: dubsport on 21 September 2011, 09:41
Would love air but its not really worth it on my car, the front splitter only sits 20mm off the floor as it is. Looking to change the tyres to 215 35 18 soon aswell so not much point spending 2k to get it sitting 10mm lower :undecided:
Title: Re: waiting sucks!
Post by: Jimp on 21 September 2011, 10:02
Getting air would be able more than going as low as possible. It allows you to sit millimeter perfect and adjusting for any different wheels takes minimal effort. Plus there's the added bonus of being able to raise the car when needed to avoid damaging anything underneath.
Of the options listed though I'd stick with number 5 and just enjoy the car  Remember if you swap to a B6 Passat then air is prett ymuch mandatory. Mate of mine is saving for it at the moment. They just don't go low enough on normal coils, not without major hassel anyway.

Option 5
Title: Re: waiting sucks!
Post by: T_J_G on 22 September 2011, 18:34
Option 2 + air. Remember the management can go in your next car!
Title: Re: waiting sucks!

Gots a job now so progress can start again!! :afro:

Despite giving the alloys loads of coats of lacquer the brake dust has eaten into them on the front wheels so they are now a constant dirty grey colour  I have decided to get the whole wheel powdercoated including the dishes, my ideas are polished chrome for the v.i.p look? might look good with the gli trim?

OR

have them powercoated black with the polished bolts? Never been a fan of the murdered look but its kinda heading in that direction  dont worry im never spraying my rear lights all black

as for plans next year ... Air, BBS RS, GLI side trim, R line rear bumper, Votex front bumper

Just read your thread from page 1 bud. To say it's been a rollercoaster ride would be a bit of an understatement. You're car was looking absolutely stunning just before the misdirected parking incident.

You've put a serious amount of work into this car and for what it's worth I think it's one of the best Boras I've seen. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of it.

Cheers mate means alot that the build kept you reading the whole thing ! Yeah it has been emotional, but time to move on I think  doing just under 50miles a day to work and back so need something more economical really

The car im going to look at on sunday already has 3 piece Image split rims, lowered on coilovers and being a GTI has the nicer bumpers so not really anything needs modding, but im sure il find something to do to it if i get it

In other news also looking to buy my friends mk1 GTI shell... absolutely no rust and i think its all primered. comes with a 16v engine but needs full interior etc, have some ideas already but we will see if it goes ahead (will be taking some of the pretty carbon fibre parts/S3 coil packs off the bora as i think a 1.8T could be on the cards) :afro:
Title: Re: 20v 1.8T Bora ST - money collected ...

Well its been 2 weeks since I sold the Bora and my mate has managed to blow the turbo (less then two years old) smash the anni front splitter/bumper/wish bones, and sold it

As for my new car well its not quite the same as I originally set out to buy. Was looking at Polo 6N2 GTI's, Audi A4 or a 1.9TDI 3dr silver mk4 golf. Ended up buying a Silver 3dr facelift 55 plate Corsa C 1.3CDTI when I found out it was £30 a year to tax  up to 75mpg on a run and £45 to totally fill the tank :afro: Its perfect for my 50mile a day round trip to work, gotta say im really happy with it. For an 80bhp car it sure does shift. Couple of things I will be doing to it but just needed an economical car for work. Still looking to buy a mk2 golf and vr6 it tho
