Winter tyres: 2wd vs 4wd
« on: 21 November 2018, 10:27 »
Found a new video on YouTube that will be of interest to most people on here, especially the Golf R owners who think they don't need winter tyres because they have 4WD.

4wd will help get you moving but you still need to change direction and stop, myself and my father have had Conti winters on fwd's and they have been amazing.
My father's Audi Allroad was very impressive that would literally go anywhere.

Still if you have sheet ice only studded tyres will help with that.

Winters fitted this weekend just gone.
The amount of “4wd” I’ve driven round in my fwd car on winters, I’ve lost count.

Weds 28th is my changeover date this year.  Hankook i'cept Evo 2s on my Golf, and Kumho WinterCraft on my daily Megane.  2016 was the first year I'd used winter tyres, and I'm a total convert.

Just had 4 winter tyres fitted - Verdestein Wintrac Pro. I hope I don’t regret choosing theses over the Continental TS850 P. My wife has the standard TS850 on her A3 and they are a great tyre even in a warm spell.

When my car was in getting serviced last week they reported that the front PS4 tyres were 3mm on the outside, but only 1mm in the middle. This wear indicates that the tyre pressure was too high. I have always followed the manufactures recommendations on tyre pressure, but obviously 38 psi on the Mk7.5 door sticker is too high for the PS4.

Now I’m wondering what pressure I should be running my tyres at. Do the tyre manufacturers have recommended pressures for their tyres?

I'm yet to find a comfortable pressure on the PS4. Had them on about 6 weeks now and the car either feels skippy or feels like the tyres are flat. Never had any problem with the Bridgestones. I'm currently using the recommended 36psi but the steering feels way to light in corners to the point where I have absolutely no feel or feedback at all.
