Leaking gearbox - car only 2 months old!
« on: 07 March 2019, 20:05 »
As the subject states my GTI Performance is only 2 months old - bought new.

Noticed a small leak on the floor underneath the car recently so took it to the dealers who got it up on the ramp and confirmed a gearbox leak!

Never had an issue like this on such a new car so looking for advice really.

What is a reasonable expectation in relation to this? Should I accept a repair? Should I expect a replacement gearbox, or should I consider rejecting it?

Has anyone else had a similar issue with their car?

I suppose I'm just a little concerned I've ended up with a car which may develop more problems as time goes on which is disappointing as I intend to keep the car for many years - hopefully.

Let your dealer fix it under warranty and if it's done properly you shouldn't have any issues. Bit of a knee jerk reaction to be talking about rejecting it without allowing them to fix it first. I had a rear wheel bearing replaced after just 1200 miles and not once did I think I would need to reject the car.

I agree. It will be fixed under warranty and will be as good as new.
You won’t have grounds to reject it anyway

You will struggle to reject the car before you've given them opportunity to rectify the issue.

Yes, had the fault occurred within the first 30 days, you may have rejected it. After that you must give them opportunity to fix the problem.
There’s no reason to think it will recur or develop further faults but if you are thinking of rejecting, it may be worth writing to the dealer to express your disappointment in case the fault recurs and you want to consider then

They will need to check the level of the fluid if it is DSG as even new boxes come pre filled with transmission fluid and you don't know how much it has potentially lost.

It’s an annoying fault but not a catastrophic one unless you park your car on your best Axminster carpet.

Very good advice there from Yusee about logging it in writing in case it recurs though.
