How can i take a 16v longer to get from 30 to 50 than from 30 to 70

Model             Weight KG,  Power,       Torque,    0.60,  30 to 70, 30 to 50, 50 to 70, Overall Mpg
Golf GTI 16V   1160      150        133        8.1        7.8       8.2      11.1        26.6

I believe that they do 30 to 50 in a higher gear.

Good info but im pretty sure the 8v torque figures are wrong. Maximum torque of an 8v is 122 lbft no 127. Just my 2 cents. I may be wrong but this is according to the owners manual, parkers and the haynes book of bull**it.

Just checked, the car they tested was a 1994 so I believe that is a ADY engine, maybe that has more torque than the later ones.

I remember they tested 30-70 through the gears (starting in second i guess?), 30-50 in 3rd and 50-70 in top

I may be wrong but this is according to the owners manual

When has the owners manual ever stated the truth?

so far i'm getting 32mpg from my r reg vr6.  i know this these computers overread but i was still very impressed.  I do drive a few miles per hours quicker than a tractor right enough.  I like just purring along slighty with just the odd burst to hear that magical note.

A car will give worse mpg when it's new.

Once the engine's worn in it'll increase... So if they tested new cars it's likely that they weren't doing too well.

At least, that's what BMW have led me to believe.

Not just the valve gear but the (at the time) wider wheels and tyres and all the Electronic Differential Lock (traction control) gubbins. Various other differences such as wider bore exhaust.
