Protective Bumper Film Golf 7.5 vs 7
« on: 06 June 2018, 09:36 »
Hi, my GTI 7.5 is arriving at the end of the month. I want to put a clear protective film on the rear bumper, and have been looking for a genuine VW part on eBay (I have bought two before from eBay for two different VW Tourans over the years, and been very happy with the ease of fitting and protection they provide to the paintwork).

My question is whether anyone knows if the mark 7 part will fit correctly, or is there genuinely a new mark 7.5 part?

Searching on eBay I see part number 5G0061197 on many offers for the mark 7 clear rear bumper film.

Then I see offers claiming to be for mark 7.5 (2017) facelift Golf, but the pics also show the same part number.

Searching the VW UK website only shows door sill film protectors, and nothing for the rear bumper, unless I am missing it.

This one specifically states it’s for the mk7.5 Golf;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Genuine-Volkswagen-VW-Golf-Mk7-5-2017-Rear-Bumper-Protector-5G0061197B-404/3009424638

I’d be surprised if it’s different to the mk7 bumper protector. AFAIK the tailgate design is the same for the mk7 and 7.5 GTI, so the profile of the horizontal section of the rear bumper that the protective film is attached to should also be the same.

You could always check with the parts department of your local VW dealer.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

I managed to find the correct part on eBay, and ordered it from Germany (autohaus-voege). Should arrive next week, so a week or so before my GTI is delivered.

The part number is 5g0061197b. The b on the end makes all the difference in finding the mk 7.5 part.

I will post a pick once installed if anyone is interested.

Hi @ John F
Six months on I just wondered how this bumper protector has held up? Has it faded/discoloured/curled at the edges?
Thanks
Roger

Just an update on this if anyone is looking at this for a Mk7.5.

VW code shows the B suffix for a 7.5 but the Mk 7 version without the suffix is identical. Just bought this from Parts Depot on Ebay for £19.99 incl P&P. Genuine original VW kit using proper 3M vinyl and fits perfectly.

Is this applied to the top flat horizontal surface stopping short of the outer edge or does it fold over the rounded edge onto the vertical face protecting the corner?

I have 5G0061197 installed on my 7.5 GTi from new and it fit no problem. I didn’t even realise that there is a “B” version. I don’t have a pic but I’ll try and get on and post it up.

Yes, it does extend over the lip of the bumper ever so slightly to offer some protection. I paid a lot more than £20 for it too so that’s a bargain price.
