Back after several years
« on: 06 February 2018, 07:35 »
Hi all

I've been absent from the forum for several years; thank you to John for assisting with account recovery,

I see the few posts I made have been ruined by Photobucket so I thought I would start again.

Bought my Golf GTi 8v new in 1989.  Used him heavily for approximately three years and then retired him when I got my first company car and GTi insurance became prohibitive.  For the last 25 years he has been used as a summer car clocking up just short of 90k miles in total.  I would describe the car as used but not abused and the thing I like about it is it retains many original components and is unmodified with the exception of an after market alarm.

I'm Phil and this is Gordon the Golf:

Looks great Phil. Nice to see a loved, unmolested classic.

One of my regrets is owning a number of Ford XR3 / XR3i’s in the 1980’s and not owning a mk2 Golf GTI.

Would’ve loved to have had a Tornado Red mk2 GTI.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Thanks both.

I had a Ford XR2 (very rare now) that I traded for the Golf.  The only regret I have, as it was and still is a fantastic car, not buying either a GTi Cabriolet or a 16v,  Considered both but allowed head to overrule heart. Also looked at a 205 Gti they are rare too but the Golf won on the test drive.
