hi, What is best for trackdays, a mk4 2.0 or a mk4 1.8 turbo, not looking for a car with big power, just want to have fun and importantly be very reliable.

Or cheaper and probably more reliable - a Golf3 16V.

A better bet would be a mk2 or as DH said even a mk3, if it has to be a mk4 then a 1.8t

personaly wouldnt track a mk4.

2.slow would just be boreing.  and 1.8T's can get very expensive in the matance department when been worked hard,   they drop valves a bit to often for my likeing when run at high rpm lots and the turbos while fine on fast road cars are just not upto heavy track use
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

i track my mk 4, wouldnt say its that boring tbh. only had to give way to catehams and superpower cars on my last outing.
i have a 18t mk4 that ive done biased around track days. not fully stripped but done enough to it for a good track car. its not to bad tbh, heavy yes but its a golf. they are heavy. had problems with brakes overheating but ducting has sorted it. did 145 miles round combe on mon and it was fine. next track car wont be a 1.8t though or a golf, but spent to much for now so i'll enjoy it for a bit longer first.
next car needs to be n/a for me i think

that said you dont fancy buyin it steve?
