1.8T oil.
« on: 20 October 2008, 20:39 »
First question what oil do you use in your 1.8T?

Ive done lots of research and VW audi recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil.

Now ive been into my dealers Twice in the past and asked " What oil shoud i top up with please"

On both occasions i gave my reg number and was told " Castrol magnatec 10w 40 sir "

Now then EVERYONE except the dealers are saying to use fully synthetic 5W -30 oil in the 1.8T I even put this in the service thread:

Weak spot:
The 1.8T MUST use fully synthetic oil, and be changed at the correct service intervals, use of the wrong oil can cause the oil pump to seize causing catastrophic loss of oil pressure and engine failure.

After reading bully85@s thread "my agu is dead help" i am concerned that some of us may be using the wrong oil.

So what do you use and what does your dealer tell you to use?

Last change, mine received 5W 30, and since, it's been very economical.

Actually I think even Opie reccommended 10w 40, I've always wondered myself what to put in, but seeing a few others using 5w 30, I put that in as it's what I had, fully synthetic. Just wanted to give it a service as it looked as though the dealer lied that it actually had a service.

From what ive found 10w 40 is totally wrong for 1.8T so why are dealers telling people this?  :undecided:

am i the only person in the world who thinks castrol magnatec actually destroys engines?

id be asking "what oil do the workshop use when servicing" then the monkey on the parts desk will have to go and ask a spanner jockey..

but get some generic aftermarket oil anything but magnatec...

right I used Synta oil form the stealers but it doesn't tell me what grade it is on the invoice. I've got the part number if you want it to give them a shout Rich?

I've only used what I was recommended by my local place...
