YOLO  :lipsrsealed:

There has never been a better time to get a loan, you should be able to get one on ~4%, which is great rate. Check out moneysavingexpert.co.uk before you take out a loan

Get the car, have fun, sell it in a year or two for £5k...

Look at it another way that is a lot of money for a 10yr old car, I would stick with the 1.8t given the choice.

There are cars older such as skyrine r34 and escort rs turbo that sell from 14k

R32 values look to be on the up.

Long time dead.

I was going to buy this but as it's from '89 it must only be worth a couple o' k.

I'd buy an R32 but would be too tempted to turbo it.

I think bringing Porsche 911's to the party is missing the point, 911 values have been rock solid for years and will continue to rise, £7k for what is at the end of the day a 10 year old Golf is still a lot of money, I have never considered R32's to be an exciting choice.

Think outside the box and £7k would get you lots more choices that would be worth the money, hang onto more value and be more exciting.

Not really Wayne. R32 prices dipped down to 4k and have recovered to a starting point of 6-ish. Maybe you not thinking the R32 is an exciting Golf is where you are going wrong.

911 values haven't been solid for years. There is tremendous variation over time. Not so long ago 964's were dirt cheap now you are looking at 20k. A great 993 could be yours for 20k not so long ago but now you need more like 30+. 996 Turbo's have recovered at least 5k in the last year. Conversely, 40k on an early 997 maybe 3 years ago would now be 25k.

Why are you so sure a mk4 R32 wouldn't be a wise investment? Limited run, distinctly different look, many ruined. Keep it standard and give it a few years.... who knows.

What are your suggestions for something more 'worth the money'?

I don't think I said a R32 is not a wise investment, as your right very few were made and standard ones will be on the money over the next few years but having been lucky to have drove one a while back, I did not think it was that exciting just felt a little numb and heavy to me.

What are your suggestions for something more 'worth the money'?

A Boxster or Evo would be nearer the top of my list or a nice early mk2 GTI whilst not exciting would be a wise investment.

Mate, just do it. Like most others have said, YOLO!

I'd love an R32 as an all round decent performance car that a lot of people appreciate for different reasons. I would also not hesitate to get a loan for a car as long as finances can be met elsewhere and are manageable. Christ I was going to get a brand new Polo only a couple years ago.

My only qualm, it's not blue.  :lipsrsealed:

All mk4 r32s fall into that tax bracket, some of the very early mk5s do as well. It changed in early 2006.

After playing with my mate's 3.2tt the r32 is pretty comparible to a mapped 1.8t, it's quicker off the line but slower between about 30-80 and gains again top end.

The r32 is a much better all rounder though, handling is in a different league to a 1.8t and the exhaust note
our blue 1.8t will prob handle better than most r32s but will never sound as good
