Don't forget the air bags. The covers have weakened stitching to allow the bag to burst out. Having a passenger side cover on the drivers seat could cause all sorts of problems if the worst happens and the air bag tries to get out.
 
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Like I said, the uppers aren't interchangeable due to the airbag mounted to the outer bolsters. The foams have large square cut outs as well so would be useless as well. Just the lower foam is transferable from side to side.
