track rod

Hi all, I had to put a new track rod and track rod end on my golf 2.0, since doing it the steering wheel is off to the right, i did the count the turns thing but its still off, is there any way to get the tracking back in the position without having to go to the garage, its not that far off, thanks.

actually yes. you will need a long piece of string , couple of axle stands , tape measure , and a 22mm open ended spanner (maybe 20) for the locknut and 13/15mm for the rod itself .

There is how to videos on youtube. I have used this method plenty of times now .

Shouldnt have moved that much if you only just cracked checknut off 1/2 a turn, unscrewed track end and replaced and nipped back up.

Garage and tracking is only other option.

not the best way.  a 4wheel alignment is the best

ah well iv not came across this method, the method i thought you were meaning is done before/during the replacement.

string aint gonna work lol.  If string can measure tracking to 0.01 of a degree then ill eat my hat (which ill have to go out and buy first)
