replacement leather seat cover
« on: 19 August 2009, 15:18 »
So there was a little tear in the leather on the back of the drivers seat in my new GTI. They have offered to replace the cover under warranty. Has anyone had this done ?. Did the new cover fit properly as as tight as the original ?

If they are replacing the leather on it and getting it done properly then it should look like new.

yes, the leather on a mk 6 GTI driver seat is all one piece (I presume this is the same on a mk 5) ..it's one complete cover apart from the headrest

Might as well get them to do it, if it ain't right then reject it.

They won't want to fork out for a whole new seat as they cost a fcuking fortune.

I agree, chances are they will bring a contractor they use for this type of work in.  It probably won't be one of the regular grease monkeys, same as they do for wheel refurbs or windscreen replacements.

I can almost guarantee it will be a contractor as its a very specialist skill.

apparently not, their own technicians do it...it'll take an hour for them to take the seat out and take the old cover off and put the new one on. I can watch them do it if I like.

The say they've done a few of them over the years and it's relatively simple being just a one piece cover...oh, I'm almost tempted to leave it as it is

They defo use their own tecchys - don't worry, on my Mk5, I've had both front drivers seat bases, and the rear seat base all done - and they were absolutely perfect.  In fact - it is probably the best work they have actually done on the car!
