'85 Mk2 GTI 8v Starter Soleniod?
« on: 03 March 2009, 12:23 »
My Golf has recently developed a 'sticking' starter, it seems completely dead, but a quick tap on the starter solenoid brings it back to life. Can you buy the solenoid separately? I have looked on GSF and can only see the stater motor itself listed, I can't find the solenoid...

The solenoid is available separately. Don't bother with GSF/ECP, goto a local battery/alternator/starter place and just get a new solenoid.

You can remove it on the car, its three flat blade bolts at the end, undo the braided wires and it should slide out, be careful not to lose the spring when withdrawing it.

I got a new one for mine about a yr ago and it was £15 fitted IIRC.
