MB QUART crossovers can you help !!!
« on: 27 September 2004, 16:08 »
Ive got a couple sets of high quality crossovers , both have internal components visible through the plexi covers .
One is a 2 way which allows bi amping .
The other is a compotition 3 way .
I brought these second hand & my problem is that i cant tell which size of speaker they are used for as there is no model numbers on them .
If any one can help it would be greatly appreciated.
I can supply pictures of the units on request ,if that helps .

are they passive or active ones

active ones devide sounds before the amplifires!
you you would run one before the amp for the sub, and before the amp for the 6x9's etc!(they fit inbetween headunit and amp)

or passive ones seprate sounds after amplification!
(theses fit inbetween amp and speakers)
so i would have thought the passive ones are used to higher wattages!

imo the 2 way xover would have split the signals from a tweeter and a mid bass unit, either a 4", 5 1/4" or 6.5".

the three way xover would have split a tweeter, a 4" mid and a 6.5" midbass.

the problem you'd have if say you were using these to power a set of mids and tweeters on either side is that the three way xover, which ever way you wire it, will have a gap in the frequency range - either the lower end that the 6.5 midbass is meant to play, or the more vocal frequencies that the 4" mid would play. if your going to use them then id say sacrifice the 6.5" from the 3way.

If your not planning to run components from them but say, 6 x 9's then im affraid their useless as you'd not be able to provide the correct frequencies.

Hope some of this helps  :)

They are passive units but  my problem is that the 2 way units might be for
a 5.25 & tweeters or 6.5 & tweeters.
The three way units might be for a 6.5 mid & tweeter or 5.25 mid or tweeter.
Mb quart made mids for all the above units .
The problem is there is no distinguishing id on the units to guide me.
