I recently purchased some cluster rings, so follwed a guide on the interwebb and got cracking
Granted there not to everyones taste but I think they look better than just a bare cluster
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2011-11-27144542.jpg)

I was also sick of looking at the wooden trim and gear nob so aqquired some brushed ali vinyl and had fun wrapping them along with fitting my new gear nob and gaitor
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2011-11-27144559.jpg)

these turned up last week and after alot of head scratching I soon realised you had to rip the old ones off with brute force . Havent got around to fitting the rest pedal yet but I might just get a gti one off ebay
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2011-11-27144630.jpg)

Well when everyone was saying how long it would take to change a tip admitedly I did laugh and think you were all crazy... Well you certainly proved me wrong, dont want to be changing that again anytime soon

and a quick pic of the uprated recirv valve
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2011-11-27144712.jpg)

Ive had these a while but didnt have a project at the time so will add them now, my depos with a 10,000k xeon bulbs and 100w high beam  (Not sure why they appear green but there deffinitely not )
and lastly some White xenon numberplate bulbs
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2011-11-27151940.jpg)

Next update will be next week

Update 12.02.12

Well this is going to be a big update in one hit as I simply havent had enough time recently to do it as it happens

Well following on from last time I had the 3" turbo back non res exhaust fitted  At first I was a bit devious with the price-fitment but  it fits like you would expect an oem part to fit and Im never one to say this but I would say its fairly underpriced for what you get. I must say it has free'd up a fair bit of power, the throttle response combined with the forge tip and exhaust is 10 times better and the noise it makes  ....... wot sounds like a boxxer engine  and even though its a 3" non res exhaust its suprisingly not that loud and I have learnt how to make it pop  :lipsrsealed:

Heat transfer on the down pipe

I also forgot how much stuff I had collected for my remap

Well an egay induction kit came up fairly cheap because someone had bent the end of the ali section so I snapped that up and with a bit of heat and TLC I managed to get in sphericle again

Cold air feed anyone

A spare of the moment bargain came up so thought id buy it

Someone on here was selling a boost gauge so thought id get it so I can keep an eye on levels, its goes up to around 12psi then settles at a solid 10psi, is this about right for a standard auq 180!?

Also picked up a full set of bora vents and an arm rest so cracked on with fitting them

Well It has been hideously cold In Norfolk
so as expected the gritting force have been going ott....  :lipsrsealed:

I purchased a forge map adaptor for my fmic so the pipework is currently with an ali welder getting murged into the system but im expecting that back next week so then I can fit that then thats me all ready for Rtech to do there thing with a custom stage 2 remap

all comments welcome

Update 25/02/12

Well Ive had a fairly productive weekend and lush weather to enjoy it in .

Soo Where do I begin

Take one Forge map sensor and a dremel with cutting piece =
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-18101924.jpg)

Add a pipe work section and an Alli welder =
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-18102239.jpg)

Then the dismantling began
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-18104656.jpg)

Untill you see this on the floor  :lipsrsealed:

....  the aircon randomly turned it self on and after tucking this hose out the way to fit the IC pipe work, the outter edge of the fan slit through it

Annoying expensive mistake £25 antifreeze £25 + VAT for hose
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-25150852.jpg)

Also Got myself a short Shifter for my 6Speed box

Theres so much less throw in the shifting now, it really is worth doing for the sake of £50 fine ones.

After having a little play last weekend with fitment etc, I soon realised that I wasnt supplied with the right size coupling that comes off the hotside of the turbo, so ordered one and recieved in time for fitment
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-25155834.jpg)

After dismantling the front I picked the right size adaptor for the Forge map sensor
(http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j52/SHORTY14_2006/2012-02-26144317.jpg)

This area needs a good sort out, everythings so tight, bit worried about hose kinking  :undecided:

06/03/12 Update

Well Following on from last time A Fair bit has happened again.

After a little bit of trimming the bumper slid straight on

Due to having Air con lines and pumps dotted about this is the best fit I got using the pre-bent Ali pipe work, Could do with sitting about an inch to the right but I’l address this later in time. But for the money and the feed back of the Toyosport FMIC kit I was expecting a MUCH worse battle/ finish on my hands, but VERY pleased with the outcome.

Some random Night Shots

Followed by a trip to the Dealers… Oldest car there yet the cleanest. Got Some really nice feedback off some customers and staff members about my motor which is always nice to hear.

After Finding this little Gem of a ‘How to’ http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/265756.aspx  I bit the bullet and jumped in at the deep end. This is the most nerve racking thing I’ve done so far and I cant thank the guy enough for creating such an easy step by step guide. Everything went exceptionally smooth, So smooth in fact I didn’t even have to reach for the airline and Gun!
All in all its taken the best part of 3 days. But here in Norfolk we really have been fighting with really sh!tty weather to the point where I actually put my dads fishing gear on!

What can go wrong with a 26 page ‘how to’ print out

I Ordered a load of bits during last week which turned up but Havent had time to fit them

*Catch Can
*2 meters of 19mm id hose
*x2 19mm-15mm adaptors
*x1 19mm T piece
*10mm braided hosing
*15mm Silicone hosing

Since I lost a rear mudguard within the first few days of owning her  I decided to get rid of them all
Not sure why I took so long doing this as it makes the car look so much nicer!

Went and brought some Hamerite and cracked on with doing my calipers, think its a really nice colour contrast

Finished off with some Simoniz tyre dressing

Ive recently Had to replace both my handbrake problems due to them bring seized, apparently this Is a common issue on the mk4's SO I found a nice how to with a fix for a few quid of the dealer, They clip into the caliper and the arm to retract it. as this is why the cables stretch and corrode after time

UPDATE 22/03/12

What lovely weather weve had here in Norfolk the past week, Dare I say summer has officialy started!? :lipsrsealed:

Well...... A few of the lads at work knew ive been desperately waiting for some bits to arrive and today I was working out in the yard when a courier pulls up, Thought ahh brilliant hopefully its for me carried on working knowing that one of the office lot would sign for it bla bla bla. Anyway 10/15mins pass and I get called in for a Brew and was announced that a parcel had indeed arrived for me. Brilliant I thought, quickly finished off what I was doing then headed in.

Sat down and there was the legit parcel all addressed to me bla bla bla, Started carefully opening it up and sieving through all the polystryine and card.... Well F#CK me, My heart sunk as my blood level rose

Infront of me was this...

Well   I didnt know what to do the f#cking thing almost got launched accross the workshop, Not only had I recieved a different turbo, its an absolutely knackered:cry: though great Ive been scammed big time.

then a few of the lads came in and started winding me up that I had been mugged off which really wasnt helping seeing I was getting closer to exploding  then they all burst out laughing and handed me another parcel

ripped the new one apart and inside this beautiful looking GEM greeted me  :smug:

Got well and truely stitched up

Should of known something was up at the beggining seeing as everyone I work with are top notch wind up merchants

What they'd done is gone through the engine warranty box and found a turbo has a snapped turbine under a year old  and parcelled it up for me

The new blower Is a brand New Genuine OEM K* series with all gaskets and fitting  :smug:

Sorry for the life story

thanks for reading will be updating again very soon

Update 25.03.28

Following on from a few updates ago I fitted my catch can

Could I please have some clarrification as to whether ive installed right!?

*T'd off the rocker cover, one going going back down to the oilfilter housing area other going to one side of the catch can.
*Blanked off two nipples on the underside of the inlet manifold.
*Blanked off one side of the y piece that goes onto the side of the inlet manifold, think it has something to do with the brake bolster.
*other side of the catch can to the oil puck on tip !?!?

out with the old

UPDATE 07/05/12

Long time no speak and all that jazz, Thought id give you a bank holiday monday update.

Ive been hoarding alot back recently due to having hardly anytime free time.

I managed to bag myself a bit of a bargain , anyone want to guess what

i need to get a job in jcb, im 19 aswell man, i have a mk3 1.4, not the best looking one in the world, looking to upgrade to a mk4, mayby run this mk3 into the ground, however its a nice solid shell, but with them so cheap i could probably get a well sorted one for what it would cost me to get it looking right.
i could never dream of affording to insure a 1.8 this year!

any way man it looks lovely and by the looks of things has had a lot of work done already, much has it skinned you ? :)

I landed on my feet big time getting employed by Watling JCB, been there for just over 6 months now, I wasnt the best educated lad thats for sure. So this proves its not all about grades on a bit of paper. All of this has happened by working bloody hard and saving even bloody harder, Granted this isnt as fast moving and exciting as some threads on here but youve got to remember im only 20 and everything has been paid for legitly off my own back, Car + Tax + Insurance + Mods + fuel not palming off the rentals like some lads I know  :lipsrsealed:. I just assumed it was genuine!? deffinitely alli and deffinitely has vw logo and part numbers on the back  I know what you mean about the 'grainy lines' for some reason the camera hasnt picked them up

but either way for the price I paid I dont care if its genuine brushed alli or not its 100x better than the wooden dash, certainly wont be losing any sleep over the matter

Company on eBay?

Took me ages to find some that could be delivered and paid nearly £20 for 4 litres!

Soon found someone selling it at 50p a litre in England though!

UPDATE 04/06/12

Half way through the year already  bloody madness I tell you dunno where the times gone

Been a busy lad recently so following on from last time ........

When and got me some paint didnt I

No particular order, but really impressed so far considering its done by rattle, Has orange peel as expected but it hasnt been flatted yet and needs several clear coats but getting there

I also bagged my self an absolute bargain of the bay  infact Id rather not say how much for I paid for it because you would cry

Genuine Anni rear valance with exahaust cut out, colour coded in LC9Z

The important bit

Thought Id change my pollen filter considering I havent changed it yet

old and new

Anyhow......

Following on from last time

Went and picked up 50 liters of 99.95% virgin grade methanol at 80pence a litre. Ive been advised to do 50/50 water meth so that little lot should last me a while

Now for the install .

First thing I did was drilled the tank so I could fit the inline filter and main feed from the tank. Might of got a bit carried away with the 'dab of silicone around the edge just to eliminate any pottential leaks in the future'

Front end dismantling to mount injector

After speaking to a few people who have already installed W.M.I I found the best place to mount the injector was after the intercooler allowing maximum time for the water meth to cool down the charged air.

after marking the spot and making sure the injector would be hidden and free from obstruction I drilled, tapped & sealed it in

different angle

Next was too route the feed line from the injector to pump.

VW kindly thought whilst desigining the golf about the possibility of enthusiasts installing W.M.I kits and such things and created an extra 'alley' for the line to clip into

Bit more routing

For optimum access I decided to mount the manual boost solenoid here for ease of changing the boost the W.M.I kicks in at 7psi

I Figured Id like the pump hidden out the way, whilst having the tank at an easy filling place so decided to mount things like this!

(parcel shelf removed for purpose of picture)

Now for a little review. Well.... For the money it has cost (Sub £300) this has been the most beneficial/noticeable mod I have done and bearing in mind you get optimum results with a map (WHICH I HAVENT DONE) this really has been my favourite noticeable mod. Installing was a piece of cake, It litterialy consists of earthing the pump & solenoid, Live battery + to the pump, 12v ignition feed to the pump, vacumm feed to the solenoid and away you go! I dont have vag com so couldnt tell you of any actuall intake temperatures, how ever after a hard run (and I mean hard ) the intake plenum is ice cold to touch (quite litteraly). Having the hot fmic pipe so close to the manifold it is quite amazing the temperature difference between when the charged air comes out of the turbo to the charged air that enters the inlet plenum . As far as useage im doing about 2 tanks to a full tank of fuel which I dont think is too bad!
ALL IN ALL I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND GETTING ONE

Just a few pictures of the car

Now It really is time to get this mapped  Ive put it off for so long but I think im pretty close to maxxing the K03s out

so the spec is

*AUQ180
*87k miles
*K03s
*99' RON fuel
*DEVILSOWN 6-30 PSI W.M.I kit
*CRAFT '42  3" turbo back non res exhaust system
*TOYOSPORTS C.A.I
*TOYOSPORTS F.M.I.C
*FORGE T.I.P
*FORGE actuator yellow spring
*FORGE 007P (soon to have)
*PCV simplified - oil catch can
*N249 valve delete

I think thats everything haha

thanks for reading, comments welcome :)

Very nice beading

You should get quite a result with all that right? Would they be using the WMI while mapping it, or would that be something is purely used when you want to go faster and would have no affect on the map?...

Cheers dude

In my head im thinking high 230's low 240's power wise (I know its hard to say a figure as so many different things depend on) what do others think!???  :nerd:

Yes the WMI will play a big part in the cutom mapping . As with the intake temperatures being so low you can advance the timing without having to worry about detonation and knock. allowing more boost safely etc etc. From what ive read you should be around 10bhp better off with it than if you werent to have it

Heres a good video that explains how WMI works  :nerd:

Didn't Chris. have a VERY similar setup and get 247, when speaking about my old setup, WMI was supposedly be able to bump it up from nearly 280 to nearly 300 german stallions.

Post by: scarr89 on 05 June 2012, 21:35
I get how the WMI works, but I meant...like...

When you get the custom map done will your final peak power/torque reading be taken WITH WMI running or not? Surely you would be left with 2 peak reading, one  WMI ON and one  WMI OFF...If ya get me  :undecided:
Title: Re: From Jap to Vag *04.06.12 bigish update ;)**

Post by: scarr89 on 05 June 2012, 22:19
No, will be WITH meth injection at full song..

Gotcha...But am I right in thinking that you don't cruise around with WMI on all the time? So surely it the map wouldn't necessarily be suited to it when not running? Or are we talking about small numbers that wouldn't affect it too much?
Title: Re: From Jap to Vag *04.06.12 bigish update ;)**
Post by: Dave_IOW on 05 June 2012, 22:22
Depends what method you use of regulating it, mine came on at 7psi and was at full chat at 15psi with a progressive controller..

So under 7psi, no meth/water was used, obviously when you get it mapped, the meth injection levels are taken into account with the mapping.

This has been well over due but I cant believe now after knowing how much difference its made why I put it off for so long. It took me the best part of 3.5 hours to get there but boy was it worth the drive, especially on the way home  . As soon as I got there the guys got stuck in checking everything was all good and safe explaining what was going to happen .

In the first 30-45mins session on the dyno the guys maxxed the set up out at 199bhp  with a missfire. (Toby your guess what right ) How ever after they had a quick look around they soon noticed that I had made a school boy mistake by not tightening something on the intake manifold allowing a boost leak. Within the next 1.30 mins they switched the engine off and started indoing the safety straps to get the car off the dyno. With the new live software they have everything can be done twice as fast so to say I was itching for a drive was an understatement.

Even though it was way above my head they took the time to explain they had *maxxed my set up out  showing me all the figures, duty cycles etc etc. I then went on a test drive  and wow.... I told my friends I was getting a new car to throw them of the scent but this is just as good as. it really is completly different to before. you only have to feather the throttle to cruise and then if you push a bit more it absolutely transforms the car into something else  The power is soo smooth yet agressive its hard to explain. Overall I am soo happy with what the guys at R-tech have done, cannot recommend them enough  if your reading this guys, I will be seeing you very shortly with what you recomended .

Now the bit youve all been waiting for. Cullygti you were on the money.

They maxxed out my set up with 1.75" intercooler pipework being restrictive . They said theres easily another 10-15bhp to be had with the 2.5" pipework along with + lbft. They couldnt physically get the K03s to flow any more through the 1.75" pipework as heat soak was becoming a major issue even with the meth injection and F.M.I.C. I also had a leaking exhaust triangle turbo gasket which you could hear which of course was loosing a bit of power along with a blocked/rusty toyosport air filter . Either way Im extremely happy with the power they made considering the above and will be getting all the above sorted asap for another trip up there to get some better results along with launch control being added and left foot brake and boost .

The most important bit  231bhp & 258ftlb holding a solid 20spi boost

Cheers man, all the hard work paid off, already on the hunt for the bends to make the 2.5" intercooler pipework to unleash a bit more power .

Cannot thank R-tech enough  has completely transformed the car, so much easier to drive now and completely turns into something else if you press the throttle harder

Update 24/06/12

Now the performance side of things is nearer enough done , bar the stuff R-tech told me to upgrade . Its time to start on the cosmetic side of things.

First things first, the routinely weekend bath

So then…. At the beginning of the week this parcel turned up

Going by the results I got last time with a rattle can I wasn’t fazed to crack on with these.

So I went and done some shopping and came home with this little lot :nerd:

Checked the forecast before starting and cracked on with the tasks ahead.

The spray booth , Bare ABS plastic

Several coats of primer

Primer wet flated using 1000grit

First coat of LC9Z-Black magic

LC9Z- Black magic Wet flated using 1000grit

Top Clear coat

Again Im really pleased with the finish considering its from a rattle, Maybe paintings my hidden talent!?

Typical the weather has turned for the worst, but I guess that just gives the skirts extra time to harden/dry.

So whilst I’m waiting for the warm weather I dream off, what’s the best method of attaching them to the car? Anyone got any links for products??

Ever since fitting the Anni rear valance My exhaust has been rubbing slightly on it hence the exhaust heat rap up the top, so this time I wasn’t going to take any more risks with melting things so It was up to the work shop to do some fine adjustments.

UP she goes

Working magic  :smug:

The finished article

I also had a little clear out in the garage where I came across these, so had a little play and this is what I came up with.

The finished article  ….. What boost pipes?

So then people, I need some input Obviously it still needs lowering and stance but what else do you think should be done?

What are peoples thoughts on the wheels? Change completely or painting!?

was possibly thinking refurbing them in a gun metal grey, but im staring at a blank page with not much imagination

talk to me…. !?

cheers dan . I got a bit tired just seeing the boost pipes constantly and there always looked liked something was missing, but with the vents back in its put my mind to rest .

As far as wheels go im really liking the look of some fat BBS RS's with dish and tyres stretch but sizes etc are way over my head!?

what’s the best method of attaching the skirts to the car? Anyone got any links for products??

cheers

Use that stuff to stick the side skirts on! tape them into place, leave over night, and then put a bean along the sill edge and wipe off the excess with degreaser and rags :)

RS's would be sick! I think 18's are the best kinds size for MK4s, staggered fitment of 9's out back and 7.5's for the fronts!

The engine bay looks a lot nicer with the cover on and pipes painted black. Personally i'm not a fan of the red and blue hoses though, especially the small ones on the left hand side of the bay.

Cheers guys , the red wire is for the a WMI activation light and blue hose is for the newsouth boost gauge, neither were quite long enough so I had to unfortunately go as the crow flies, but Il correct this so it will be neatly tucked away :nerd:

Lowering seriously needs to be done but with a possible holiday on the cards I might have to hold back untill this months paycheck  :undecided:

Are joms / fk ak streets a direct fit? no other parts required ?

cheers for reading

Post by: golf-sib on 02 July 2012, 12:33
Yep direct fit, some people replace to mounts while at it, FK AK and JOMs have slightly different characteristics. Me and a friend had both setups fitted at the same time. FK AK, are softer and more comfy. The JOMs are more stiffer and harsh out the box. Both are an improvement over stock. The lower you drop the more firm both setups become.

Cheers guys  Really has transformed the looks of the car and handles so much better, before it was like a bloody boat

Your right andy the back has settled down a good 15-20mm so all the wheels sit flush with the arches!

Dont quite understand the standard ARB  I have atleast an inch gap between that and the  drive shaft, yet some people make it hit with 40mm lowering springs  are there different arbs fitted to different year golfs?

Not sure whats on the next to do thing cards

Cheers guys  Ive probably driven a good 250miles+ now and the fronts have dropped a further 10-15mm which is causing tyre scrub even on braking  + every corner so this weekend im going to raise them a smidge

Im also having alot of problems with the cv boot I fitted  the biggest diameter end keeps popping off even with the clip fully tightened

can anyone think why this keeps happening?

any help would be much appreciated

if you raise it then it'll still scrub mate, get your arches rolled, it's the only way to sort it :D

Update 09/08/12

Not much of an update but just to keep all in the picture

Well for a long time now, My rear bumper has been in a bad way. the heat from the exhaust has melted/shrunk it   how about that for rock 'n roll

Ive been searching for ages (4 + months) for a LC 9Z  black magic rear bumper to turn up and all the ones that did were in a much worser state than mine and highly priced. I did look into getting any old bumper and getting it sprayed but quotes on £175+ I jsut could justify it  :lipsrsealed:

How ever my patience has paid off as this little gem popped up on ebay 10 miles away for a measleyy £10

Well It certainly has been a while since ive ventured into this thread

Ive finally started getting round to the list of jobs Niki from R-Tech recomended doing.

First major job was to change the pipework from the turbo to the intercooler to a larger diameter as you will soon see why my power was limited to 231bhp

New 2.5" pipework next to previous old 1.75" pipework

With help from Prawny (cheers bud) I gathered the list of angles I needed

Take a T Piece and cut the 25mm end off find a bit of alli tube in the garage for the n75 take off

Give it to the workshop and walll....The finished article

All plumbed in awaiting for road test as MOT and TAX ran out

Update

Well following on from the weekend, I wasnt to happy with the fitment onto the turbo outlet as it rubbed a little on the bonnet when closed. So I just cut the silicond reducer and silicone 90* bend down to bring the overall height work of the pipe down.

So this is how it currently stands.

Should I De-badge the rear (just leaving the sharan badge) ?

Now for some opinions

My turbo has been on the way out for a while now prior to the 231bhp ,258lbs-ft remap  so I think its only fair to change it before it sh!ts itself in a spectacular fashion :lipsrsealed:

I was contemplating the k04-023 conversion but with it being an AUQ with standard internals the figures sort of scare me a bit to reliability factors with it being a daily!?!?

So currently im thinking of going K04-001- direct bolt on, so my question is I know chinese products have been known for rubbish quality of materials machining etc but is that a thing of the past now? Anyone got any feed back on ebay turbos?

What does everyone think would be more benefiial with my current spec:

*Forge T.I.P

*Forge Actuator yellow spring

*Forge 007p

*2.5" Toyosport FMIC

*Devils own water methanol injection kit

*3" turbo back Draft 42 designs exhaust non res

*Toyosports CAI

* PVC Simplified- Oil catch can

The car is currently having its mot done so fingers crossed it should go though without any major problems

this is how I left her
(http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w455/Chriselvinmx/2012-10-15173703_zps8446c1de.jpg)

Any feedback would be much appreciated!? cheers

*Forge T.I.P (No real gains just smoothes airflow on intake)

*Forge Actuator yellow spring (Useful but unless you are pushing the turbo and its not holding shut then its not needed, but if you plan to take the k03s to 350 then I'd advise it)

*Forge 007p (Good, especially as a solid replacement over stock DV once that goes)

*2.5" Toyosport FMIC (Pain in a$$ to fit, but on normal day use pretty pointless and for the odd foot down, if you are ammering the car hard then you will feel heat soak occur quicky especially on stock SMIC, but then again the stock brakes overheat to easily as well, I went for a whole mintex setup, upgraded brake hoses and higher temp brake fluid)

*Devils own water methanol injection kit (Not done this but will allow better timing and temps, better to do it befor a custom map)

*3" turbo back Draft 42 designs exhaust non res (Good gains)

*Toyosports CAI (Good kit but not much gain, but the noise off a cone filter is :afro: )

* PVC Simplified- Oil catch can (If you have anything but an AGU as a 1.8T simplifying the CAI/Vacuum system is a good idea, catch can won't do much as the valves are always being sprayed compared to the mk5 engines)

Ah...I'm going blind with old age. Turbo wise the money for hybrid or k04 setup is pointless in my eyes, tiny snails. You can get a t3/4 kit for LCR, golf etc for 750. Sell bits like IC that you won't need, sell old manifold etc... so you will regain some money. The turbos I've heard mixed reviews some say they are spot on other say they had issues after a few thousand, with the money of selling bits you don't need you could use that to get turbo checked/rebuilt/serviced. At least then you will have 350bhp at 1bar and more if you want more power as boost goes up. All depends what your after could always limit the map so that turbo will work on stock rods, it all depends what you want.

Could have at least treated them to some decent rubber. Runway enduro    especially with all that torque.

Well I haven't updated this in a while, to be truthful working outside throughout the winter put a bit of a downer on the project as any spare time i had I just wanted to spend in the warm  however this has lead to a few exciting things .... I have still been ordering parts for this years new resolution of the cars looks but it's only just occurred as to how much I have collected  so here's a quick teaser, anyone care to take a guess ????

Fitting will commence on the first sight of a nice day

Not strictly Vag related but was my first engine rebuild so quite excited about it...

As I haven't had much enthusiasm for the project I've been doing all the overtime I can at work to fund it as believe it or not this is all funded through a first year plant engineer apprentice wage which believe me is , but I know it will be worth it in the long run and I do thoroughly enjoy my job. Doing all this overtime has definitely helped as I've been involved in jobs that a first year apprentice wouldn't normally be even heard of participating in such as this inspection and rebuild of this common rail 6 cylinder 24 valve turbo diesel Isuzu lump which powers a 40ton excavator....

Super read my friend. A good case put forward that the 5 door is better than 3.
Could you do me a favor if you ever get a minute?
Could you pm me over a list of the pipes used for the IC?
Do you reckon 2.25" would be enough for a tiny k03?

Yer of course bud, il gather my notes and il pm you.

erm depends what sort of power your chasing to be honest, last year Rtech maxxed my set up which should of been good for 250bhp on there older software to 230bhp due to the fact i overlooked tiny restrictve 1.75" pipework and they highly recomended upgrading to 2.5" for optimum flow

Well Ive had all week off so I thought Ide fit my new badger 5 manifold and recon K03s.

Up she goes

ALso gave her a service, synthetic quantum 10w40 oil oil filter fuel filter and cleaned sump out and cleaned/checked pick up pipe.

Money shot

Set up Forge tip, Forge Actuator yellow spring 9psi waste gate cracking pressure, 3 turn preload, Badger 5 ported manifold

Now who can spot the problem  :lipsrsealed: was totally gobsmacked when i pulled it out  :lipsrsealed:

and to think I had this turbo off now long ago in this project to fit my forge actuator and it was immaculate.

Also got my GENUINE US bumper back from paint  so so chuffed with the service, 4 day turn around, finish is fantastic along with the colour match to the rest of the car and only got charged £135

surely worth some scene points

WOW Chris

Your projected has moved on leaps & bounds since I last caught up with it, I read thro the hole thing again to refresh my memory...

Must say its looking awesome, good to see you've upgraded your interior with the recaro's fella...

The only thing I wud add now to the exterior is a twin tailpipe as the single exit looks a bit naff compared to the rest of the car...and esp as your kicking out 230's...

But in all mate its a stunning car

Love that you keep on top of the cleaning(as im a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning my car)...bud as you know black is probably one of the hardest to keep looking great but probably the best when maintained and must say you do a awesome job...

Top work dude, keep it up!

Not an update as such just got a spare half an hour so thought I'd upload some pictures of my local clubs first meet of the year: DailyDubs

In other news the turbo hasn't stopped the oil burning issues on idle  although it was lucky I did change it when I did looking at the state of the old one that got pulled out .

So I guess it's a lot more serious than I thought either valve stem seals or piston oil ring. How ever after ringing round a few places I've been getting quotes of £500+ without the guarantee of fixing it

So I really need someone's advice as to what I should do as its getting worse and worse and I'm doing a lot of miles  :lipsrsealed:.

The engine code is the later AUQ 180 ???

Well it has been a long while  :lipsrsealed:, To be honest I sort of fell out of love with the car and it has actually sat and hasnt moved off my drive for the last 2-3 weeks.

But with the weather getting warmer and the vast amount of money ive recently spent on it I decided to pull my act together and get its issues sorted once and for all. After doing a few parts estimates for parts it just wasnt worth reconditioning so.....

This will be arriving in the next few days

AUQ 180 - 47,000  yes fourty seven thousand mile engine with FSH & warranty.

I would say the exhaust is the only thing letting it down, either a bit of a bigger single pipe or a twin pipe is needed

And thats a very low mileage engine for 10 years old
looks very nice

keep up the good work!

I completely agree dude, I'm desperately trying to find a 3" tip to weld to the existing 3" turbo back. But struggling so might have to take it to an exhaust place

Well Ive been meaning to update this but with going away with work and holidays etc I haven't had time.

So.....

The new engine went in with very little trouble. Was a bit more time consuming than I thought but the outcome was well worth it. Before the new engine went in I thought I would take some precaution and replace all serviceable items, I got a nice invoice from my local vw parts department for £800+ :lipsrsealed: :laugh: this did how ever include;

*Dual mass flywheel
*Clutch kit
*Cambelt + tensioner
*Water pump
*thermostat
*Temperature sender
*Service kit (oil, oil filter, plugs & pick up pipe)

The motor is so smooth compared to my old one, can really tell its done half the mileage  and I dare say it feels a lot lot quicker  and don't get me started on fuel, il just leave you with this picture

I Also picked up a bargain, pollybushed dogbone mount for just £20 inc postage so I through that on for good luck and boy does it lay the power down smoother, my old one must of been knackered as there is no throw in the engine atall.

Cheers man  nope im still trying to find the time to strip it down and investigate. I suspect either cracked piston/ring for it to be down nearly 100 psi on a single cylinder :undecided:

is there a way of centering your rear wheels perhaps? otherwise im in envy of this motor

Funny you should mention that my missus mentioned it the other day that the wheels didn't look central, first time ive really noticed it but its grating on me now  so ive done a bit of research and you can get these which il be getting shortly

Been on a good run and it really has made a difference in letting it breathe. if you touch the bonnet where the air filter area is its noticeably colder than anywhere else on the bonnet, along with my W.M.I id be intrigued to know what my I.T's are

so there you have it a good cold air intake set up for less that £35 .

Im now awaiting my R-tech oversize 70mm tip to arrive to replace my forge tip (which will be forsale  ) then book it in with them for stage 2+ mapping

Ive also got it booked in for a paint correction and paint protection, diamondbrite stage 1 & 2 with a professional valeter next week so will post pictures of the results

thoughts opinions and suggestions welcome as always !?

thanks for reading

What did you do the headlining with? I'm guessing you sprayed it? I'm looking at doing mine and can't decide between re-trimming and spraying :undecided:

I was also humming and aringggg about what way to tackle it as there was no way I was going to pay the scene tax for a genuine one.

After a bit of research I found another solution to painting and re-trimming....

dyeing  5litres of valeters black carpet dye and a 4.5L garden sprayer cost me sub £50 and ive still got around 2.5L of dye left after the 4coats I applied to all of the interior

Because race car

Shortly after having a discussion with the boys from R-tech about stage 2+ mapping for my car, I received one of their oversize T.I.P's. Upon arrival I was quite shocked to see just how much bigger it is in real life .

I heard a few stories with them being a real pain to fit, but being a plant engineer im used to tight spaces and hand positions you wouldn't even think were possible .

with the use of my friends ramp I set upon the task of removing the upper 45* boost pipe to gain a bit of access to removing all relative pipework and old tip. it took me around 1 & 1/2 hours from start to finish instantly noticing afterwards how much better the car responds to W.O.T from midrange to topend.

fat assss

Here are some comparison pictures.

monstrously bigger than standard and forge

I managed to bend the steel water pipe with it still attached to the block just enough to slide the T.I.P down to the turbo
