New shoes I hate having to pick
« on: 20 December 2014, 07:25 »
Finally after the new year going to get round to treating my GTI to new shoes. Its only took nearly 5 years..

So what do we think Monza shadows or Glendales?

Hmm, it's a tough one, they both look good.  Shame you haven't got a pic of a 5 door with the Glendales.  The black really complements the darker rear windows on the 3 door, would  they look as good with the slightly lighter glass of the more door?

If I had to choose I'd say the Glendales just as they look a bit more special, quite a rare sight on a night blue gti and give it a different look, especially as you already had Monzas (albeit not the shadows).  And I'm not just picking them because I have them.

As a Glendale owner I would say go for Monza shadow's.
Glen's are lovely, but with std ride height on a gti without the 35 skirts Glendale's can sometimes make it look a bit high imo, plus come tyre replacement time there is more choice in 18 at a far lower cost.

Both look the nuts btw

Agree about the ride height with the Glendales, it's the only thing that bothers me about them.  Ideally you would lower the car.

On the plus side, Glendales are a breeze to clean.

Shadows for me too, still my favourite wheel on any GTI, a nice clean mk6 with some sparking Shadows will always turn my head! Love em!

Personally I would go for something aftermarket like BBS. Genuine OEM wheels cost a fortune new and reps are a complete waste of money, especially diamond cut ones. Also, OEM wheels won't give you that new wheel feeling for very long, whereas a nice set of BBS's will always look special.

I presume you have 17" Monzas at the moment, so if there is a usable amount of tread on them, store them away to put back on the car when you sell it, or use them for winter tyres.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Monza Shadows would be my choice, great looking wheels, also easy to clean and as mentioned before the tyres will be far cheaper than on a set of Glendales.

They're both great options though. I'd love to have Watkins Glen on my car but I think either of the two you have chosen work well with the blue.
