Good luck although if you can afford the car i'm sure the insurance isn't going to be much of an issue. On your own i doubt most would insure you, if they did I would estimate £3k. No idea with you as a named driver.

Best bet would be to use one of the compare site's like confused.com or comparethemeerkat etc

If your 17 and can afford to get yourself a MK5 GTI then I'm assuming money isn't an issue with you?

Most company's will just laugh at you and turn you away, if some do decided to take you on you will be looking at anything from £4000 + at a guess.

Complete lunacy if you ask me.

With all due respect you will probably kill yourself with a MK5 GTI as your first car.

Tbh mate your prob best off building your no claims and waiting til 21.

I know what your gonna say to that, the same i said to my mum when she said that lol, but seriously paying that much for insurance is madness, not to mention the power of the car for an inexperienced driver, no disrespect.

I waited and ok i am 25 in june but getting quotes for £400 fully comp on VR6 but only got 2 years NCB and 9 points, (well 3 points on licence but got 6 points 4 years ago so are no on licence)

Thats obviously my view and not my money! lol

Good luck though

You'll probably find that 99% of insurance companies will not quote. The Mk 5 GTi is classed as  aperformance car, and use is usually restricted to either 21+ or 25+

If you can get a quote, it'll be £5k or more I reckon. Just to give you a clue as to what you might pay, NU Personal Lines a few years ago quoted for a 17-yr old with no NCD, just passed his test on a Mercedes C180 coupe. The suggested premium? £21000. That was a group 13 car - the Mk 5 GTi is Group 17 so I wish you well...
