Someone explain again why the Michelin's are such a good tyre when the fuel is always an F compared to say a Dunlop which is category C. I've got Dunlop's on my Tiguan and the test drive car I drove had pirellis on which gave better move but had a worse fuel rating.

Generally the worse the fuel rating is the better the tyre grip is.

What do you want from your tyres? Fuel economy or grip, for me it is grip.

Always used Goodyear Eagle F1's in the past. Was convinced to try some Michelin PS4's and I must say I can't fault them so far.

My mpg isn't measurably worse on my Michelin PSS shod R than when it was on Bridgestones, yet the grip is massively better, in fact i'd say the mpg was a smidge better on the Michelins - they probably won't last half as long though.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I have 2x Michelin PS4s on the fronts, and the grip is so much better than the bridgestones. The traction control light has never been on  (even in very wet conditions) since I had them fitted. As monkeyhanger says I've not noticed any worse fuel economy so far. Can't speak for longevity as I've only had them on a month or so.

Seriously considering the new SportContact 6, supposed to be MPSS competitors and judging by their characteristics they should be a really good tyre combining nearly semi-slick dry grip but excellent wet performance as well, the later is very stressed in reviews and that is their biggest attraction in my eyes. You can find a lot of good tyres on the dry but usually this comes at a cost of wet performance. And honestly for them to be fitted on the Type-R when it did the 7:50 on the Nurburgring must mean they are more than just capable during fast/track-driving, they are supposed to be an ultra high performance tyre after all, fitted to quite powerful cars well above the 300bhp.  Prices are quite reasonable as well for its class, only issue is they don't come in sizes below 19", an excuse to go one size up for the summer set

My PCP end soon (1.5month from now) my front tyres are getting close to the legal limit. Question is do I try and pick up some new cheap non branded tyres for a month or do I try and by some part worns which normally would be a no no but it would save me a fair wedge. Unless someone knows where I can grab some new ones cheap.

What size wheels do you have? Not 19" by any chance are they?

Now there's a dilemma.

You can get some reasonably priced branded tyres new for fairly sensible money. Uniroyal Rainsports or Vredesteins spring to mind if the thought of Wanlis fill you with dread.

Kwik Fit have just finished their annual Pirelli cash back promotion which might have been ideal.
I need two new 19" tyres and could've got Pirellis for £106.50 each after cash back (even cheaper with quidco savings) so was tempted to fit four new tyres and sell my two rear Contis on eBay.
However no matter how much the savings attracted me the fear of using Kwik Fit fitters was overwhelming so I held off.
I'm half kicking myself now and half thinking I did the right thing.

Which brings me on to used.
I've nothing against used tyres if purchased carefully.
Some eBay 'specialists' might be a less ideal place to purchase tyres from, but I've picked up tyres from eBay and forums where you've had the scenario of an enthusiast owner selling little worn rear tyres after picking up a puncture on a fairly worn front OEM tyre for example. They've junked the fronts and sold the rears choosing instead to replace all four with new ones.
Funnily enough that's similar to what I intend to do sooner or later too as my fronts are on 3mm so could be sold to someone who wants to do a track day then bin them and the rears will soldier on for a bit. Believe it or not I think I've had the fronts on my last four cars now!
Either that or I'll let the rears soldier on and pick up some lightly used OEM tyres for the fronts.
i used to buy and sell alloy wheels all the time and have owned plenty of second hand cars that come by default with second hand tyres so I'm not completely averse to buying used so long as I'm happy with the seller's credentials!

For six weeks use I think I'd be looking at used OEM spec tyres Misterp so long as they were significantly less expensive than a set of lower end decent branded new tyres.
Toss a coin for it!!
