To anyone with a bad idling problem
« on: 15 May 2003, 01:50 »
So many people seem to have a bad idle problem, i just thought i'd post this snippet that was extracted out of a vw mechanic.

If you have replaced everything and you still have rubbish idling check Fuse 18 (or 17). (This works for 16v at least just in case it model related).

Apparently, this fuse blows, you take it to the garage - they charge you 300 quid to "fix" your problem.

I remember an article in an early club gti mag that rough idle can be cured in some cases by cleaning out the inlet tract of k jet engines.
basically clean the plastic tube and the throttle body and also take out and clean the idle adjust screw-this is normally covered in black crud, use lint free cloth and just reset your idle speed when clean-a free, 5 minute fix in some cases! :D
