Cam Belt Fun

Hello

Can anyone help me. I changed my mk2 16v cam belt yesterday, fairly straight forward, but the car's oil temperature now runs slighty cooler ,between 98-104...before the change it was 100-108 , but my main concern is that when the headlights are on (i.e night time), the car severly loses power and holds back between 1700-2000 rpm. This is only when the headlights are on though, other wise the car seems normal.

Could it be the fan belt not being tightened up enough, or the fact I sprayed WD40 everywhere to loosen all the bolts?

Any Ideas...

Cheers,
Lee

I think you may have answered that yourself! Check the drivebelt tension and check the alternator mounting belt is secure.

I would say the timing was slightly out before the belt change which made it run a tad hotter than it does now, the headlight problem seems to be down to the alternator belt tension but if its loose with the lights on and you rev the engine you should hear it whine as the pulleys spin on the belt.

Hello

I agree with you about the cambelt not being right to start with. Ive still not had time to nip up the fan belt and so far there has been no slipping noise coming from it. I will get my arse into gear and do it saturday.

Cheers.
