"Luggage Compartment" Error
« on: 06 March 2006, 00:56 »
hi i need some help pls, for the last three days i have had a warning message on the dash saying "Luggage Compartment" along with the door symbol lighting up, i have checked 110 times and the boot is shut properly yet the message keeps coming on, its slightlty temperamental however after about 10 minutes of continouos "beeps" it starts to become less repititve but still shows the error message,

Another thing that is that when the car is stationary and locked with handbrake on the alarm just randomly goes off i think this "luggage Compartment" error is linked to this.
I  think the car thinks the  boot is open and hence sends the alarm off which is really annoying at 1am in the morning , is this a major job? pls somebody help, is it going to be a main dealer job, i hope not

Do u think i need to change the sensor in the boot? will this solve the error message and the alarm problem or is there a lot more to it,
any comments and help much appreciated
thanks

We get loads of these complaints this time of year.

Usually the problem is that the rear window washer gets frozen. As you push the washer in, the hose gets forced off it's mounting causing water to leak into the cavity inside the tailgate and drip onto the sensor for the open/close thing. Often, this will also cause the alarm to go off randomly. It's a common problem, so contact your dealer.

For future reference, if you notice that the jet from the washer is weak or non-existent, don't squirt it and check it out otherwise you're probably just squirting water around inside the tailgate. (this may not even be the case with your car but it is a very common issue)

vwmaindealer, you hit the nail right on the head, i noticed over the snow period that teh rear washer was kind of dribblign it out so me being stupid kept using it till it was back to full pressure,

however i rang my local vw specialist he says off the top of his head the water has dripped from the washer pipe and corroded somethign and u need a new lock,

vw main dealers said we need to book it in for a diagnostics which is £44.99 +vat but then if you get the work carried out the diagnostics charge gets absorbed in to the price.

take off the panel and have a look mate - spray the switch with WD40 as that will drive the moisture out.

the panel is held on by two screws - one in each grab handle and a load of clips. start on the left hand side and gently but firmly pull the panel off.  its on tight but will come off!!

Yes, assuming the boot lock is corroded, a dealer will want to put a new lock on it.  We would charge around £250  for this work. If you can DIY it, you'll stand to save a few quid......

i was told by my corrupted vw dealer that u need a new catch for 24 quid but u can actually just take the catch off and give it a good clean coz it gets this green stuff on it
