Golf mk8 / Re: What have you done to your mk8 today?

I just fitted these cill strips to my CS, they’re OEM from the current Polo GTI. Very happy with them! Thanks very much to Exonian for putting me in contact with his buddy who sold these to me for a very reasonable price

Welcome.
My favourite car ever was my 3 door Mk2 16v 1991. I bought it when it was 1 year old with 8k miles. I sold it way too soon. Cry.

I never got on with the 16v, much preferred the 8v.
The 1991 specs were fab though. My 1991 GTI is the only car I had massive regret selling.

Quite right to keep the ED35 Nino, it’s from a simpler time but still has most of the mod cons and anything missing from spec can generally be retrofitted. Easy to maintain and easy to lightly upgrade parts when they wear out without detracting from its originality.
The depreciation on mk8’s is vicious at the moment and they’ve gotten too expensive.
There’s plenty of time to upgrade in the future should you wish, but for now you’ve still got a pretty special car to enjoy. :afro:

@Hertsman, heed your wife’s words or you’ll end up actually living in the car 😁
Besides cars are far less trouble than pretty faces (elderly Alfas aside and to be honest I never really understood the Alfa love of car enthusiasts, they do nothing for me) and less expensive in the long run!

Golf mk7 / Re: Micro cracking on Tyres?
« Last post by karlos on 10 April 2024, 15:28 »
FWIW I'm having one of my rear Michelin PS4 replaced on Monday. Despite it still having over 3mm tread it's nearly 7 years old, has micro cracks, a sawtooth pattern on the inner shoulder and it's getting noisy like a worn wheel bearing. Not taking a chance as I'm doing a continental road trip next month.

I should really swap the tyres between front and back once a year to even out the wear.

Just add my bit.

I've only had my car yearly serviced at VW and from one of the invoices they mistakenly gave me before I told them I had a service plan they used;

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-30 - which is 504.00/507.00

Interestingly the Shell 1 litre top-up bottle I bought looks exactly the same as the genuine VW bottles they sell.

Also have had mine only serviced at VW and they use Shell Helix Ultra Professional as well. Interestingly, they used 5w30 until last year when they switched to 0w-30. I did query it with them and they said that is what VW now recommends. The W rating probably doesn't matter much with the mild winters we have here.

Depends on how well the wires are seated.

Nominal is usually around 2-3mm, but they can be higher or lower. It should create a short when you remove enough friction material to expose the wire and wear that down.

Just bumping this up again in the hope someone knows the answer..!

What remaining thickness do the brake pad wear sensors trigger?
