Mk2 GTi 16v over heating - tricky

Help help help!!!!

I have a MK2 GTi 16v 1989. Its done 122k and keeps over heating but.....

The temp is running 92-100 (norm 82-86)

Steamy/condensationy/mist from exhaust only when hot

Had several carbon tests done and all have shown the head gasket has NOT gone, carbon reading -2, if it had gone would have read 100+

Thermostate and radiator replaced, thermostae coming in at 96 as it should, since radiator replaced comes in about 98.

No oil in water

No water in oil

Have had suggested haeter matrix blocked and not circulating properly, but heater works fine.

After all this when i describe the problems 9/10 say head gasket. Please help. Somebody has also mentioned cracked cylinder linning

Car has been to local VW dealer, several local vw specialists and other garages, VW said head gasket even though test show otherwise. :'(

The temperature you mention must be the oil temp? not the coolant temp.  If it is oil temp from the mfa it sounds quite low?!  Does the coolant temp dial also move to the far right?  Condensation from the exhaust could just be a product of complete combustion and not something to worry about.  I hope this helps, I can't claim to be an expert on engine cooling, just another 16v owner...

Not an expert, but check the water pump. Mine lost its spines, hence the overheating.

BTW, the VW garage tested the engine - and said we needed a new one..... duh...

We didn't walk out - we ran.
