Dual Action Polisher recommendations
« on: 28 August 2018, 15:20 »
Hi All,

Couldn't find any posts that were recent on this topic so here goes.

I'm on the market for a DA polisher, wanted to know what you guys own and what you guys would recommend.
Seen some polishers that come as a kit with pads and products, worth going for or buying separate?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Flex Rotary PE12 - 150 for me. Great bit of kit. We used both on the 3 day detailing course and the general consensus was DA good but if you only have 1 machine, a rotary is better. I've got 125 and 75mm backing plates so can tackle large panels and small parts as well.
NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

There’s a few threads on DA’s on here.

Look at DAS-6 Pro.  It’s ideal for newcomers to dual action machine polishing.  It has an 8mm throw which is the distance the plate oscillates, (some are 15 or 21mm) and is a versatile machine as it can take both larger sizebacking plates for 5 and 6”pads but also smaller 75mm plates for using 3” spot pads, which are usual for tighter areas and contours, B pillars, wing mirrors etc.

There’s the new DAS-6 V2 which takes 5 and 6” plate/pads but doesn’t take spot pads so some limitations.  Same with the DAS-6 PRO PLUS which again takes only 5 and 6” pads but has a larger throw at 15mm.  The larger throw means more coverage, which means quicker results with less effort in less time, but it comes at the cost of limited backing plate fitting.

I have the latter and it’s great but I also have Rupes Mini Bigfoot for use with spot pads, so got most areas covered.   I started out with a Meguiars DA with 8mm throw and then upgraded when I wanted a bigger throw machine, and sold on my original.

So think about a machine that suits your needs now, in the knowledge you can sell it down the line if you ever want to progress or upgrade to something else.

Choose your DA first and then have a look at the kits available.

Good places to start.

Cheers for your reply, although I'd be sh1t scared starting out as a novice with a rotary, maybe later down the line when I gain a bit of experience and get confident. As currently I'm totally new to machine polishing.

You're right there are other posts that are older, this is the kind information I was looking for as it's current and relevant to the latest on the market, other posts had no mention of the newer machines and the way you've explained it in the post above was spot on and gave me the details and expert knowledge/opinion I needed.

I have settled on the DAS-6 Pro as it seems the best all round machine for me going by your write up.

Now just some help/guidance on which kit/package to go for.
I have a MK7 Golf in Black, dunno if that is soft or hard paint and which products would be best for me to go for as when i'm looking at the packages all i'm seeing is pads and bottles of products lol

Thanks again for your reply and write up, appreciate it.

Glad it’s been helpful.

Deep Black Pearl, is hard paint.

Tbh, any of the kits will cover your initial needs as contain compounds and finishing polishes and the range of pads to cover most basic correction needs.

As Neil (WoWo) suggests a Meguiars compound  / Chemical Guys Hex Logic pads kit will be a great starter kit, but I’d go with it on the DAS-6 Pro, rather than the Pro Plus which the kit above is, purely for the reason you can use a 75mm backing plate and 3” spot pads. It’s a simple kit with just st a cutting compound and a finishing polish, and cutting and finishing pads.

Unfortunately that kit is out of stock on cleanyourcar right now but might be available elsewhere.

However this Scholl compound / Hex logic pads kit would also be a great option, and has a bit more flexibility as it’s 3 polishes and 3 pads.
