Need more BHP!
« on: 09 February 2003, 16:18 »
Right, I've got a 1997 2.0 8V, love the car but i'm thinking 115bhp is not quite enough, what can i do to up it without breaking the bank and the engine!
Air filters scavenge a few bhp, chipping is also an option, but i'm worried it will shorten the engine life and cause problems, is this correct?

look forward to replies,
Thanks.

Hi Glen and welcome to the forum.
I have upped the BHP on my Audi from 170 to just over 200 by chipping it (?260), catfree replacement freeflow exhaust system (?400, but needed changing anyway) and a K&N replacement panel filter (?30).
I don't believe that any of these  mods will be to the detriment of the engine.

Rich,
Thanks for the reply, worth checking out for the cash!
I think if I could squeeze 150bhp, it might keep me happy for a few weeks!!!
Glen

Also message for site, when can we have live webchats?
or can we already?

Cheers all

I don't think you will get 150bhp with a chip (gives about 10% extra), filter and exhaust.  I don't see these mods giving you 35bhp.
I'd go for a big-valve cylinder head with a cam and induction kit - could give about 140bhp.  Add an ECU to that lot and you'll be over 150bhp.
Or whack in some nitrous!!! ;D

But remember - think of your brakes first.  Gotta think how to slow it down before you speed it up!

I had it done by 'Powerflow':-

http://www.powerflow.uk.com/

Really pleased with it and it was cheaper than getting the 2 rear boxes replaced using OEM parts!
Whats more its guaranteed for life as long as you take it back for an annual free inspection.
