What is this?
« on: 04 July 2020, 16:07 »
Hello people,

I am looking to partly respray my car, however, at the bottom of my car there is a small textured // bumpy section at the bottom. I think it could be some kind of rust prevention, could anybody please clarify what it is?

Stone guard/Gravel guard I think, it stops the stones that hit the underside of the car going through the paint?

Yes, as @baka has said, it’s a coating to protect against damage from stone chips.

Car manufacturers have been applying this flexible coating for many years now to the car sills and underbody sections that are vulnerable to damage from stone chips and other road debris. If you look under your car, you’ll probably see this protective coating extends along the outer sections of the floor pan and boot floor and maybe the spare wheel well.
