Newbie checking in.
« on: 22 May 2018, 18:54 »
Hey guys,

I picked up my new 7.5 Golf GTI last week.

So far very pleased with it :)

I chose a 3 Door, non performance, DSG, in Tornado Red.

I thought long and hard about options, but in the end, and after lots of changes or mind, I kept it standard apart from the DSG box, which I had no choice about as my wife only did and Auto driving test.

I came close to ordering the Dynaudio upgrade, but I'm glad I didn't as I think the standard speakers sound great.

I've already had it lowered. I had the Eibach Pro Kit fitted, which lowers it by 20mm at the front, and 15mm at the rear. This has really improved it, the wheel arch gap is about right now, and also its given it a better stance imo.

The Pro Kit was only £150 on Amazon, and a local garage charged me £150 to fit. I've still got to get the Alignment checked though.

I also have a set of OZ Racing wheels on order. I've gone for the new Hyper GT HLT, in Gloss Graphite.

I'm sticking with 18", means I can use my existing tyres to save some cash, and also I'm not convinced that 19's look right, part of me thinks they're just that bit too big.

And one more mod, I've got some gloss black mirror caps on order. (off ebay)

So I'll post some pics when the new wheels are on.

Cheers anyone

Agree with you on the wheels, 18's are fine on the current Golf. Lighter, better ride and cheaper tyres.

Welcome to the forum! Good shout with the Eibach's, I put Pro's on a week after taking delivery of the car and they are brilliant. I also agree with you about 19's, I think they are a bit big for a Golf but I had to upgrade to them because I didn't like the standard Parkers.

Well to be honest, I was all set to buy 19's, but once I had it lowered I changed my mind and thought that 18's looked OK.

And yeah, lots of downsides to 19's, less mpg, harsher ride, less performance, speedo error (if you have 235 tyres that is).

Plus the expense, I could only afford the OZ wheels by keeping to 18" and using my existing tyres.

I know what you mean, I don't like the Parker wheels, but tbh I didn't really like any of the upgrade options.

I thought it was better to get some decent lightweight aftermarket wheels and sell the Parkers,

(although I might even keep them and stick some winter tyres on)

by the way,

I bought my Golf with the help of Car wow.

I ended up buying it from a dealer in Portsmouth, even though I live in the North West !

It was a lot cheaper than the VW dealers around here, it was worth the journey down there to collect it.

Cheaper tyres for 18's too! A lot of people on here buy through drivethedeal.co.uk, hopefully you got a price close to what they're offering.
