Mk6 2010 options vs standard
« on: 16 June 2017, 10:47 »
Brand newbie here.

I'm going to look at a Mk6 GTI in tornado red later today (saying the colour matters, its beautiful!).

I've read up on most of the common faults so I have an idea on what to look for.. One resource I cant find is the standard vs options list for the 2010 year. The one i'm looking at has tartan cloth seats, no satnav, has cruise control and gloss black 18" wheels. It looks as if its had some modifications but I cant tell what was standard and whats been added.

Also - if its had a remap is there any way to tell via a plug and play into the ECU? Do people declare these in the vehicle history or not?

Any other advice for a Golf newbie. ie how to love and respect her, service routines, cleaning schedules, how much of my stuff I can fit in the boot when my wife kicks me out.. (she asked for a family car and specified 5 doors and something a little nippy )

Here's a link to a December 2010 brochure for the mk6 Golf, which includes the GTI and details of the main options that were available on the mk6 range.

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/common/pdf/brochures/golf-vi-brochure.pdf

Tartan seats were standard. Say nav and cruise control were optional. Sounds like the wheels on the one that you're considering aren't the originals (unless a previous owner had the originals refinished in black). Standard wheels on the mk6 Golf GTI were 17" Monzas with a silver powder coated finish. The diamond cut 18" Monza Shadows were optional and these seem to have been specified by many original owners.

If you've not already done so, worth having a read of the timing chain tensioner failure 'sticky' at the top of this section of the forum. A 2010 GTI will have originally had the version of the tensioner that was prone to failure, so it's important to check whether or not this has been replaced with the latest version (there were 2 or 3 revisions to the timing chain tensioner during the life of the mk6 Golf).
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

The gloss black wheels could well be refurbished Monza Shadows that had suffered whiteworm.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thanks Both.

The build date is March 2010 so it will have the old chain tensioner unless a previous owner has had the fault or changed it already. The car didnt have any audible signs of the fault so I've gone ahead with the purchase and a 1 year warranty with the garage.

Towards the end of the year near the end of the warranty i'll get the new tensioner fitted with a specialist. Any recommendations in the midlands area?

The wheels are the monza shadows so it could very well be that they've been refurbed. I like the shadows so I might pick up another set and run one winter one summer.

Spotted a number of optional extras the garage didnt declare (or price for) including heated seats, headlamp washers, storage pack, power mirrors, cruise control.

I'll favourite this forum and maybe see some of you out in the wild at some point! Will upload a pic of the car to the relevant section incase its been owned by a member here before.
