If you really want 12 months then maybe go halves on a new mot with the owner? If it passes maybe pay a little more, if it fails then renegotiate?
Can't really do this as it has 5 months remaining - the earliest you can do an MOT is 2 weeks before its due date IIRC...
you can MOT a car at anytime, but you can only preserve the same date each a maximum of a month before.
the maximum MOT you can have on a car is 13months, anything before that will only be 12months, and from that date.
